FLL Robotics

Updates from term 1

Building on last year's experience FLL Robotics is off to a great start. Students from Year 7 & 8 meet once a week and develop skills in problem solving, building Lego robotic systems and developing code solutions to solve missions. The program is designed around 6 core values: teamwork, inclusion, impact, fun, discovery and innovation. Everything we do throughout the year is tied to these values.

There are 4 components to the program:

Robot design. Students explore and modify different designs and compare how the design of a robot impacts its ability to solve missions including manoeuvrability, effectiveness of sensors and complexity of code to create solutions. The goal of the robot is to interact with the lego models shown in the photo below, each of which requires a different interaction to activate.

Robot Game. Participating schools come together in November each year to compete for a place at the national championships.

Innovation project. As part of the annual competition students develop an innovative project, based on the season's theme, that they present to judges. Developing skills in research, presentation and public speaking.

Core values: teamwork, inclusion, impact, fun, discovery and innovation
