Catholic Identity
Mercy Prayer
We pray for the Sisters of Mercy, who established our school and for the priests who have served at St. Mary’s.
It is through their vision, determination and strong faith that we enjoy the benefits of a Catholic Education here in Mooroopna.
We are proud to be a Mercy School, where the values of love and justice are taught and lived every day.
NEW News - Lent: a time to “Behold, I make all things new!” (Revelations 21:5)
Each Monday at our whole school Assembly, we are reminded of the words of the 2024 Sandhurst Diocese theme we are following this year.
The Assembly script read by our Grade Six leaders at each assembly states:
This year, our school is following the Sandhurst Diocese theme of, “Behold I make all things new!” These words are from a book in the bible called Revelations.
We are challenged to have a new attitude, develop new ideas and practise new skills to help us be the very best person we can possibly be. To live life to the fullest.
New ideas, new attitudes, new ways of thinking - this is what we are promoting throughout this year, and there is no better time than Lent to make a change!
During this reflective season of the Church, we are invited to think about how we can pray more, how we can give up something for the benefit of others and how we can reach out to serve others - prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
It’s never too late to make a change!
Popular Australian musician, Andrew Chinn, (who visited our school last year!!) wrote a song for the diocese for this theme. It is an upbeat song, enjoyed by our students!
Grade 3/4CH created actions for the chorus which were taught to the whole school. Check out the song with your child at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3C3sOlinRzc
NEW News - Project Compassion/ Caritas Fundraiser: “CRAZY HAIR DAY!”
The Grade Six Social Justice Team have organised TWO events this term to raise money for Project Compassion, an annual initiative we support to raise money for Caritas. Caritas is a Catholic agency that works with communities all over the world to help them achieve their development goals and build a better future for all community members.
The saying, “Give a person a fish and they eat for a day - teach a person to fish and they eat for a lifetime” sums up the philosophy of Caritas.
The first Project Compassion fundraiser is a “CRAZY HAIR DAY” on THURSDAY, 29th FEBRUARY. Students are invited to wear a crazy hairstyle on this day and BRING A GOLD COIN to place in their classroom Project Compassion box.
The second fundraiser is in March - “Wear Green for St. Patrick!” Further details to come.
