 Year 5/6 Wellbeing Blurb - Term 2 2025

This term, students in the Year 5/6 community have been exploring the key qualities of Respectful Relationships, with a special focus on understanding emotions and the important role they play in our everyday lives.

The unit began with students identifying a wide range of emotions that we experience day to day. They classified these emotions as positivenegative, or mixed, and shared thoughtful explanations for their choices. Some students noted how emotions can shift depending on the situation – for example, how a negative feeling can sometimes turn into a positive one.

Students also learned that it's normal to feel many different emotions in a single day—or even within one experience. They compared this emotional journey to a 'roller coaster' and shared personal stories where their emotions change quickly or felt intense.

From there, the focus shifted to exploring helpful strategies for managing negative emotions and finding ways to bring more positive feelings into their lives.

Finally, students reflected on what helps them feel happy, supported and balanced. They created their own list of "bucket fillers"— activities, people, or experiences that boost their wellbeing. Each student then shared their ideas with the class, so everyone could learn new ways to help themselves and others keep their "buckets full".
