Head of Primary Years' Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Hazel Glen College,
Please take time to fill in the 2025 Parent/Carer opinion survey. We value your feedback and this feedback helps us to evaluate our practices for ongoing improvement. The survey closes on the last day of this term on Friday 19th of September and can be completed online. The survey seeks feedback on our College climate, community engagement in learning, teaching practices for student engagement and outcomes, and attitudes towards attendance.
Our Year 6s have returned from a successful camp to Phillip Island. The students were all excited to spend this last camp together to celebrate the end of their time in the Primary Years. A big thank you to all the staff who attended with the students and to Ms Elisha Tabain, our Year 6 team leader and Mr Anthony Palazzolo, our Year 5-6 Instructional Leader, for their coordination of the event.
Our parent-teacher conferences were held online today. This is our final formal conference for the year but please reach out to your child's classroom teacher if you have any questions regarding your child's progress. Thank you for supporting our conferences today to continue building a collaborative home and College partnership.
At our College, we are committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment where every child feels respected and valued. Recently, we have noticed some students making racial comments. These comments are hurtful and harmful. When such incidents occur, staff address the behaviour immediately and engage students in restorative conversations to help them reflect on what was said, why it is harmful, and how it affects others.
Parents are informed directly, particularly if the behaviour is repeated or serious, and age-appropriate educational consequences are used. Our Respectful Relationships curriculum and School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support program reinforce empathy, respect, and inclusion, while cultural awareness and anti-racism learning are integrated into classroom activities.
All incidents are reported under Child Safe Standards, ensuring appropriate follow-up. By pairing clear consequences with education and support, we work together to foster a College culture where respect, inclusion, and safety are central to every student’s experience. We ask for support from our College community to ensure that student wellbeing and safety are a priority for us all.
Our staff have been unpacking our College learning and wellbeing results to inform future College programs. These results reflect the dedication of our students, staff, and families in creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive College community. We are proud of this progress and remain committed to helping every student feel valued and heard. We continue to be a high-performing College within the local community.
