From the Principal

Learning & Care - the business of schooling.
Learning and care of students is the corner stone of holistic and liberal education.
Supporting students to gain new knowledge, develop skills, deepen understanding and apply learnings in different curriculum domains is the business of schooling!
As a school, we exist to nurture, support, extend and challenge academic endeavour as learners become to know themselves and their place in the world.
The research is clear. The work of teachers has the single biggest impact on student academic outcomes. Behind every story of personal learning success is a meaningful relationship between a student and their teacher.
The late Sir Ken Robinson said, "At the heart of education is the relationship between teachers and learners – that’s what it’s about. Everything else should be focused on making that the best relationship possible."
On that basis, our new strategic plan includes the core strength of Learning & Care.
At GSG:
- We are committed to quality teaching and learning that is highly engaging and develops essential knowledge, skills and wisdom.
- We activate lifelong learning and support students to pursue their individual passions to create personal success.
- Our integrated pastoral care supports students academically, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
- Our students live resilient lives having agency over their own wellbeing.
Learning and care are not mutually exclusive, they intentionally co-exist and ensure each child is known and cared for as they experience personal academic success in a supported environment.
In 2025, our strategic priorities for Learning & Care are focused on the development of teacher practice to strengthen learning in the classroom and further enhancements of our pastoral programs.
The school is in the process of implementing High Impact Practices Teaching and Learning Framework, designing a new Learning Hub strategy to further integrate technologies in learning, and we are in the process of designing a New Regional Enterprise Initiative for launch in 2026.
This project will see the further development of curriculum offerings, unique regional industry partnerships, internships for senior students, community outreach programs and micro-credentials to prepare students for life beyond school.
Pastorally, we continue to expand our Therapy Dog program, further integrate our Year Seven students into new Year Seven to Twelve homerooms, deliver our Year Eleven Peer Support Program and we are exploring the development of new social and emotional curriculum programs in the Primary School.
We are also fortunate to have Ms Sheryl Moncur as our school Counsellor, who continues to support staff training in Youth Mental Health First Aid and deliver essential programs in the Health curriculum classes in the Secondary School.
At GSG, Learning & Care is our core business and we remain firmly committed to nurturing all learners throughout their whole school journey as they craft their own pathway to success.
Go well.
