Spotlight on Learning

Stage 1
1/2I has been enthusiastically working and learning with Ms Acar, a Pre-Service Teacher from Western Sydney University.
1/2I have been involved in writing activities related to The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. Our focus has been on crafting compound sentences that incorporate noun groups and conjunctions. The students have developed their own characters, and they will be writing narratives about them.
The artists of 1/2I have been learning about a variety of artists, for example, Romero Britto and Claude Monet. Creating detailed and colourful artworks.
During Mathematics, 1/2I have been working through multiplication and division, as well as playing our favourite maths game at the moment, Swap, steal, sit. You might like to play it at home.....

Stage 2
In Science Stage 2 have explored how energy makes things happen. They described the effects of heat energy and explored ways that heat can be transferred due to conduction. They did this by testing plastic spoons, metal spoons and wooden spoons by putting butter on a spoon and a bead and putting this in hot water, the results showed the children what materials are good conductors.
Students in stage 2 investigated the behaviour of light, including light reflecting on a variety of surfaces and shadows resulting from interruption of light by an object. They especially enjoyed making rainbows with prisms and creating animal shadows using their hands.
They enjoyed creating a circuit using batteries, leads and light bulbs. In the final weeks of term they will be exploring common sources and uses of electrical energy and will look at different ways electrical energy can be generated sustainably.

Stage 3
6S students are thoroughly enjoying their class text, Rabbit, Soldier, Angel and Thief by Katrina Nannestad. They have been exploring the story through the eyes of the main character-Sasha and wrote powerful diary entries from the perspective of a 10-year-old boy who has lost his family, friend and home. The students skillfully incorporated figurative language techniques such as metaphors, hyperbole and oxymorons to enhance the emotional impact of their writing.
In addition, 6S revisited the concept of a "sizzling start" to hook the reader from the very first sentence of their narratives. Some students began with onomatopoeia, while others used action or compelling dialogue to draw the reader in.
It is both a pleasure and a privilege to read the thoughtful and creative writing produced by the students of 6S.
