Bravi studenti!!

St Roch’s School theme 2025:

Dear Families,

Welcome to Issue 9 of our iNewsletter! We hope this newsletter continues to keep you up to date with all the news, events and learning that happens at St Roch's.

I begin this newsletter with wonderful news that Toni Allen became engaged over the weekend to Kieren. We wish them all the very best!! Congratulations to you both and wishing you much love and happiness.

As Term 2 draws to a close in the next fortnight, we take this opportunity to reflect on the growth, learning, and community spirit that have shaped these weeks. It has been a term filled with rich learning experiences, meaningful celebrations, and a strong sense of connection among students, staff, and families.

Our classrooms have been vibrant with curiosity and creativity. From deepening understandings in literacy and numeracy to exploring topics in other curriculum areas.

This term we also celebrated several important events that brought our community together. Highlights included our First Holy Communion Mass, Mother’s Day celebrations, Highlights Assembly and Class Assemblies, Interschool Sports, sporting events, and student-led and teacher-led clubs amongst other wonderful events. These moments not only enriched the learning program but also reminded us of the strength and support of our school community.

We look forward to our Parent/Teacher/Student Conference tomorrow beginning at 1.30pm in the hall. We are incredibly proud of all our students and extend our heartfelt thanks to our dedicated staff and supportive families. Your partnership plays an essential role in helping every child flourish. A friendly reminder that our students will be dismissed at 1.00pm tomorrow.

World Environment Day

We are grateful to be able to celebrated World Environment Day with Mrs Julie Meseha.

Over the last couple of weeks the children have been participating in some special environmental lessons with Mrs Meseha. The lessons were held to celebrate World Environment Day which is held on June 5th annually. This year the UN Environmental Program (UNEP) called for a collective action to tackle plastic pollution with a focus on microplastics.

An ambitious campaign was proposed by the UNEP to reduce plastic pollution, drawing on the combined might of governments, businesses, and citizens. The idea: to reduce the number of single-use plastic products used by consumers while reusing and recycling as much as possible, a process known as circularity.

The Prep - Grade 2 children at St Roch’s participated in a series of lessons on recycling, the reduce/reuse/recycle environmental slogan, the associated symbol to look for on packaging and learning how to correctly sort waste into the correct rubbish bins for collection.

The Grade 3- 6 children received some lessons focused on the environmental issues caused by microplastics. They participated in a hands on activity which allowed them to try sorting through, categorising and recording data from a sample of beach sand for microplastics. The children learnt about the scientific sampling methodology that Mrs Meseha would have used as an environmental scientist to sample a large area and how to collect and interpret this data.
