TAS Upcoming Assessments

Senior Workshop time

Senior students have been offered Monday afternoons 3pm-4pm as an extra opportunity to work on their major projects in the workshop space with their teacher. The above completion dates are fast upon us, so it is vitally important that students be working on both PROJECT and PORTFOLIO consistently between now and then. As a guide, students are expected to work at least one hour a week on their portfolios.

Course Contribution

Course contribution letters have gone home.  This covers the cost of consumable materials and supplies. Payment can be made online via the CHS website. Payment options are available. Students can pay weekly, per term or as a lump sum payment. If financial hardship exists, please don’t hesitate to contact the finance department within the school.

Shoes

All students require fully covered leather shoes to participate in the kitchens and workshops for Work Health and Safety requirements. Students in incorrect footwear are unable to participate and will be set alternate theory work in another supervised class.

YEAR 9 IN FOCUS

Our Stage 5 Timber students have completed their first project, The Spice Rack. This focused on developing their skill in a number of areas including: marking out and measuring, cutting, through housing and rebate joinery, abrasives and finishing.

In the theory component students were introduced to: materials lists, reading and interpreting working drawings/plans, timber defects, tools and machinery used in the timber field. Students also completed a small project portfolio as part of their assessment task.

Year 9 are now beginning to produce the second project – The Lolly Dispenser. A fantastic gift for parents, caregivers, Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents and siblings.

Our creative Year 9 Food Technology students have been whipping up a storm in the kitchen as part of their assessment task — designing and creating their very own Freak Shakes! This deliciously over-the-top project challenged students to explore food styling, flavour combinations, and presentation techniques, all while demonstrating their understanding of food preparation and safety. From colourful toppings and creative themes to decadent sauces and carefully constructed garnishes, the results were as fun to look at as they were to taste. A sweet success all round!

As part of their exploration of pregnancy and prenatal development, Year 9 Child Studies students had the opportunity to experience a taste of what it might feel like to be expecting — by wearing a pregnancy profile suit! This optional hands-on activity gave students valuable insight into the physical changes and challenges faced during pregnancy, deepening their empathy and understanding of the journey to parenthood. There was plenty of laughter, surprise and thoughtful reflection as students waddled, bent, and navigated their way through the school day with their newfound “bump".
