Year 7

A Strong Start: Year 7 students Reflect on Their First Semester at St Norbert College

As Semester One draws to a close, our Year 7 students can look back with pride on a dynamic and enriching start to their high school journey at St Norbert College. The transition to secondary school is a significant milestone, and our Year 7s have embraced it with enthusiasm, resilience, and a strong sense of community.

This first semester has been filled with opportunities for connection, exploration, and personal growth. Students began their journey with the Year 7 Retreat—a special time dedicated to building friendships, reflecting on their new beginning, and settling into the College environment. Their enthusiasm and House spirit were on full display during the Inter-House Swimming Carnival and Cross Country Carnival, which not only promoted physical wellbeing but also strengthened school pride and camaraderie.

Whole-school events such as St Norbert Day and Harmony Day provided further opportunities for students to connect with the wider College community and reflect on the values of faith, diversity, and inclusion.

Beyond the classroom, many Year 7s have actively participated in a range of co-curricular activities, including the Climate Canons, Knitting Club, Homework Club, Dance Troupes, the Academic Excellence Program, and Games Club. These activities have enabled students to explore their interests, make new friends, and develop valuable skills outside the curriculum.

Several students have also stepped up to challenge themselves in the Specialised Basketball and Specialised Football programs, while others proudly represented the College in competitions such as the ACC AFL Carnival and SASj Sport. Their dedication, teamwork, and commitment have been truly commendable.

A vital part of the Year 7 experience has been the time spent with their Peer Support Buddies—older students who have helped them feel welcomed, supported, and connected throughout this important transition.

Looking ahead to Semester Two, there is still so much to anticipate. Students will have the chance to participate in the Catholic Performing Arts Festival, build confidence and creativity in the Improv Boot Camp, and showcase their athleticism in the eagerly awaited Athletics Carnival.

It has been a joy to witness the growth of our Year 7s this semester—in confidence, character, and community spirit. We look forward to seeing all they will continue to achieve as the year unfolds.
