Year 3 Assembly

On Monday 25th May all the Year 3s presented their assembly item. Our topic we learnt about was 'Reconciliation Week'. We read and studied Yirra and Her Deadly Dog Demon. Nearly all the audience thought the best part of our assembly was when we showed our 'Sorry' film. All the Year 3 teachers thought our class was fabulous. Every Year 3 performed their job perfectly. We sang a song with Aboriginal words in it. Afterwards we received a big round of applause.

On Monday morning, I was a little nervous but I was also really excited because it was the day of my assembly! I got the courage to do it by myself. My favourite part was the video because my friends were saying 'sorry' in their language. Then it was time to wrap it up for our song. That was also my favourite part. I learnt how to say sorry in other people's languages. For my next assembly, instead of being nervous, being calm would be better.

On the 25th of May 2026, ALL of the Year Threes presented in the assembly about Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week. The reason we presented was to teach everyone about the importance of Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week. As soon as I saw my mum and friends face, I waved to them and they all waved back and that gave me a big boost of confidence. When it was my turn to speak, I told everyone about an example of injustice. After the assembly, my mum waved to me and said bye and then she left. My favourite part of the assembly was when the teacher played the video of all the kids saying sorry in their language. Sorry in singhalese is "samaawene". I loved the assembly, even though the mic stopped working around 5 times, it was kind of funny.

All our families and friends came to the assembly as well the students of good shepherd parish school our teachers. We showed what we were learning about in the classes of Year 3 which is Sorry Day for the Aboriginal stolen generations. The assembly took place on the 25th of May Monday Morning 9:00 until 9:30 we did it at the Performing Arts Building on the stage. When other people came to Australia thinking no one was there they made Australia their land but it was actually the Aboriginals land. That was when things fall apart and those things that fall apart are the aboriginal children who were taken away from their families which broke their family bonds.

My favourite part of the assembly is kind of funny. It's when the microphones ran out of charge or it switched off. Well, it's kind of funny right? I also liked the songs they are called I AM AUSTRALIAN and a video of students saying sorry in our languages. There were 24 different languages in the video.    

Assemblies are the kind of event where you get a little nervous since you're going to be speaking to the whole school, teachers, friends and families. It doesn't really matter when you make a mistake, it's just proof that you're getting the hang of it. And also it means that you're learning even more because no one is perfect.

I have a new goal for my next assembly. Can you guess it? I would like to speak louder and explain myself a little more.

At the end of the assembly the whole school, students, teachers, friends and families all clapped for us. We loved how we did the assembly and at the end we didn’t feel nervous anymore!!!
