REMINDER: CALL FOR AUDITIONS - NOW IS THE TIME!
Loreto College Marryatville proudly invites Senior School students to audition for major roles in what will be an exceptional theatrical journey, as we look forward to staging Roald Dahl’s Matilda in November 2026.
We are seeking passionate, committed and enthusiastic students who are ready to challenge themselves, develop their skills in all aspects of performance and be part of creating magical memories for our community. This is the first time the licence to perform the full show, written by Dennis Kelly and Tim Minchin, has been available in South Australia for over five years.
Auditions take place on Thursday 18 June from 4-6pm for students in Year 7 and on Thursday 25 June for students in Years 8-11.
With over seventy students already registered, this is a reminder that registration is essential for everyone wishing to be in the production.

From the fearless Matilda and the kind-hearted Miss Honey, to the terrifying Miss Trunchbull and the unforgettable students of Crunchem Hall, this production offers exciting opportunities for performers of all experience levels.
Dance
Congratulations to Year 6 student, Scarlett, whose innate flair and talent for ballet has enabled her to be selected as a World Ballet Crown Australia 2026 National Finalist. Following careful consideration by an esteemed judging panel, Scarlett has been placed amongst the top thirty dancers in her age group from across Australia. This is an outstanding achievement for Scarlett, and we wish her well as she travels to Sydney in the holidays to perform live on stage in the Concourse Theatre.
Music
Year 12 student and 2026 Music Captain, Holly, will be performing in the eagerly anticipated Class of Cabaret showcase at the Adelaide Festival Centre on Saturday 20 June at 2pm.
Holly successfully auditioned from a highly competitive shortlist of eighty students from across South Australia. She is one of only sixteen applicants to be awarded a position in this unique co-curricular Music program, which provides mentorship by acclaimed industry professionals Mark Oates and Millicent Sarre. The program aims to introduce students to the technical and professional demands of performance artists, guiding and supporting them on their journey towards a career in the arts.

SPOTLIGHT ON CO-CURRICULAR STAFF: CAROLYN FERRIE
Our College is fortunate to have a strong network of instrumental tutors who provide regular weekly lessons outside of daily timetabled classes to students across both Junior and Senior Schools.
Over the coming months, we will spotlight these wonderful tutors who do so much for our community.
Staff Spotlight
Carolyn Ferrie has been delivering vocal lessons at Loreto for many years. She is a key part of the team mounting the Senior School production of Matilda this year, and she is very much looking forward to assisting with direction, supporting and guiding students in their vocal and acting work.
Carolyn’s professional career began with a leading role in The Australian Opera production of The Turn of the Screw, followed by roles in Albert Herring and Fiddler on the Roof (Australian Opera). Amongst others, her key roles have included being in the original casts of Australian touring productions of Phantom of the Opera (Cameron Mackintosh), Secret Garden (GFO), The Sound of Music (GFO), and The King and I (Opera Australia), performing her own role and as the alternate for the starring roles. She has played Johanna in Sweeney Todd (Qld Theatre Company), Jellylorum/Griddlebone in Cats (Stella Productions, Germany), Emma in Tell Me On A Sunday (Jansson Productions) and Rose Pickle in Cloudstreet (State Opera SA workshop).
As a teacher, Carolyn has conducted workshops in the art of auditioning and continues to teach and coach singing.
Carolyn has sung the National Anthem at opening ceremonies of International cricket matches and the Tour Down Under. For the screen, Carolyn has been seen in Neighbours, Here’s Humphrey, Kingdom of Paramithi, as well as corporate videos. Carolyn is the original voice of Dorothy the Dinosaur in The Wiggles. We are delighted to work alongside Carolyn and look forward to her contribution to Matilda.

About the program:
AWO presents Kingfishers Catch Fire
Hear the full spectrum of beautiful and brilliant colour like a kingfisher in sunlight, as if they are on fire.
From the masterwork of Percy Grainger to the contemporary minimalism of Jennifer Jolley, this concert is a collection of works that span our genre, reflecting on nature and our connections. The music engulfs the listener in colour and texture.
Music includes:
Jennifer Jolley - Dune Aurora (2025)
Frank Ticheli - Sanctuary (2006)
Adam Gorb - Pike’s Peak (2017)
Percy Grainger - Lincolnshire Posy (1937)
John Mackey - Kingfishers Catch Fire (2007)
Take your imagination on a journey with a dune aurora, a new type of aurora which appears as stripes across the sky; with the majesty of Pike's Peak standing magnificently prominent over Colorado's eastern plains; with a kingfisher slowly emerging from its nest in the early morning stillness, just after a heavy rainstorm, then the bird energises, flying out into the sunlight; and be captivated by an authentic collection of English folk tunes in Lincolnshire Posy which has become one of the most iconic works for the symphonic wind ensemble worldwide.
