Learning Across the

Senior School

Year 12 Visual Art

Our nine Year 12 Visual Arts students have made a strong start to the year, building on the foundations established in Stage 1 and developing increasingly independent and sophisticated approaches to their artmaking. Through their Folios and Visual Studies, students are refining their technical skills while exploring ideas that are personally meaningful and artistically ambitious.

A key focus this year has been the development of a personal aesthetic. Students are engaging in sustained experimentation with materials, techniques and visual language to discover how their individual interests, experiences and influences can be communicated through art. Their inquiries span a wide range of themes and approaches, reflecting the diversity of perspectives within the class.

Alongside practical work, students are analysing the practices of historical and contemporary artists, using these investigations to inform and challenge their own creative decisions. Through reflection, revision and ongoing experimentation, they are developing greater confidence in their ability to articulate ideas and resolve artworks with purpose and authenticity.

It has been rewarding to witness the creative growth of this group of young artists as they move beyond technical proficiency towards establishing distinctive artistic voices. We look forward to sharing their achievements with the Loreto community as their work continues to evolve throughout the year.

The South Australian da Vinci Decathlon

A huge congratulations to our Year 5/6, Year 7 and Year 9 teams for their efforts in the recent South Australian da Vinci Decathlon. The competition brought together students from across the state to celebrate creativity, problem-solving and teamwork. Inspired by the ideas of Leonardo da Vinci, the competition challenged students in areas including engineering, mathematics, science, code breaking, general knowledge of the Renaissance and Leonardo da Vinci's inventions, art, poetry, and creative theatre. The event provided the students with an exciting opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom while connecting with like-minded peers from across South Australia.

Year 7 Team placed second in the State for the entire competition, achieving the following results:

1st in Cartography

2nd in Mathematics

2nd in Code Breaking

3rd in Legacy

Year 8 French at the Bastille Festival

At the end of May, our Year 8 French students visited the Bastille Festival for a fun and lively cultural excursion. Although the visit only lasted a couple of hours, it was packed with great food, music and opportunities to experience French culture outside the classroom.

Students enjoyed wandering through the festival stalls and trying a range of French treats, with macarons and pastries being particular favourites. There was plenty of excitement as they practised their French in real situations, using simple phrases like bonjour, merci and je voudrais when ordering and interacting with stallholders.

The atmosphere was colourful and energetic, with music and cultural displays helping to bring a real sense of France to the event.

It was fantastic to see students engaging so positively, giving things a go and representing the school so well throughout the excursion. A great experience all round, and a lovely way to bring French learning to life beyond the classroom.
