Principal's Report

 - Nicholas England

Dear Families,

We have had another busy two weeks in the lead up to the Term 2 break. Below are previous and forthcoming activities and valuable information and reminders.

Grade 5 and 6 Gala Day

On Thursday June 11th, the Grade 5/6 students competed at Gala Day. There were four different sports to compete in - AFL Football, Soccer, Netball and T-Ball. All sports represented Fitzroy North with pride, and demonstrated our school values of Kindness, Respect and Resilience. Three of our sports teams competed in a grand final with our Netball team winning and going through to division. Congratulations to all our students, I personally attended three of the four sports and was super impressed with all our students: specifically, their comradery and fair play.

Research Smart School Awards

Congratulations to the lean, mean, green machine who won the Emerging School of the Year award!

Our school's student action team - the Green Machine - leads initiatives like community film screenings, garden club and working bees. Led by teacher Lucy Ballard, the Green Machine and parent volunteers - like Tan Allaway and Eve France - formed the Sustainability Team.

With a focus on reducing waste at the school fete, Tan visited local fetes to interview parents and capture insights. The low waste fete was a success: landfill was reduced by a quarter of a tonne, 19 kg of food waste was composted, and 582 containers were deposited through CDS Vic. Thank you to all the students, parents and community partners playing a role in this success.

Annual Report to the School Community

On Wednesday June 17th, as Acting Principal I will be delivering the Annual Report to the School Community via WebEx. If you would like to join, please do so via the link below at 5pm. https://eduvic.webex.com/meet/england.nicholas.g

Semester 1 Reports

On Friday June 26th, Semester 1 Reports will be published for families. Due to the industrial action and pending confirmation of the agreement, student comments will not appear on these reports. If you have any questions regarding your student’s progress, Parent Teacher interviews will run on Wednesday July 29th (Week 3, Term 3) and this will give families an opportunity for any follow up conversations. There will be more information to follow regarding Parent Teacher interviews.

Building works

Over the Term 2 break there will be asphalt works and line markings completed between the F - 2 and 3 - 6 building. These works will offer more opportunity for activities such as four square while increasing the safety of the surface. The VSBA will also be completing essential roofing works over the next four weeks as well. We are aiming to have the long-awaited Gaga pit installed at the beginning of Term 3 too!

Child Safe

Just a reminder that families need to notify the office if they are entering the building and if you wish to meet with a staff member to arrange for them to meet you in reception. It is important for all students' safety that we know the members of the community in the building.

Kind regards

Nick England
