Connections to Country

Reconciliation Week Afternoon Tea
Thank you to the families and community members who attended our Reconciliation Week afternoon tea earlier this term. It was a great opportunity to connect in a more relaxed environment.
Emu Egg Carving Workshop
As part of Reconciliation Week, some of our Koorie students had the opportunity to participate in an emu egg carving workshop. Thank you to Adrian Morgan from Carved Emu Eggs for facilitating the two-day workshop.
MCG Visit
A number of our students were invited by Richmond Football Club through the Korin Gamadji Program to attend the Dreamtime Expo which was held at the MCG. Students had the opportunity to celebrate the culture, leadership and excellence of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across sport, community, culture, education, media and the arts.
Our students were also given the opportunity to network with other Koorie students from schools across Victoria and meet iconic football players and artists, creating meaningful connections while strengthening pride in culture and community in preparation for the Dreamtime match this evening.
NAIDOC Week Celebrations
Yesterday we welcomed local primary schools, local organisations and elders to the college to celebrate NAIDOC Week. Students and staff were welcomed by Aunty Michelle Dow and enjoyed cultural dances by our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. It was a special moment as we witnessed our Koorie students' pride in their culture and it was fantastic to see our community's support as they watched them dance. After the cultural dancing, guests were able to enjoy the photo booth, stalls and the free BBQ lunch, cooked by our amazing SRC students and helpers. Well done to everyone involved in organising the event, thank you to everyone who attended and we extend our gratitude and pride to the students who danced on the day. You should be very proud of yourselves.
