Head of Sport Report

We are coming to the end of the first half of the ISA summer sport competition, and although several results have fallen just out of our reach, our teams have continued to show real potential. These close contests have reminded us that we are right in the mix—and with a strong push, we can turn narrow losses into wins.

The Christmas break gives us the perfect opportunity to refocus and prepare for a big second half of the season. Training for all BMGS teams will recommence the week before school returns, on Tuesday 27th January and Thursday 29th January. Games begin again on Saturday 31st January, and it is very important that all players are present. Please do not forget that we have a number of coaches travelling from down the mountains and we need to respect the time that they are putting into running trainings.

The upcoming matches will play a major role in determining our final placings, and every performance will count.

With the ongoing issues at Penrith Basketball Stadium, semi-finals and finals will now be spread across multiple venues. This change means 1st place advances straight to the final while 2nd and 3rd will play for the remaining spot in the finals. This is our chance. If we train hard and bring our best to every game our teams can lift into the top three.

I look forward to everybody returning in January ready to compete and to show the ISA competition exactly what BMGS is capable of.

2026 Tennis

Tennis in 2026 will be run in a slightly different format.

We are going to play Semester-based tennis. This will run for 12 weeks and only on a Friday. This will include training sessions and a competition towards the end of the semester.

A survey has been sent out this week to any students who would like to play in Semester 1. Please reply promptly so that we can lock in this competition. If you have any questions please feel free to email me.

Rounds 3 and 4

Boys

13’s

Round Three saw the U13 Boys earn a solid 55-34 win over Oxley. The victory was a true team effort, with every player contributing on both ends of the court. Strong defence, quick transitions, and excellent ball movement allowed the team to build a comfortable lead. Whether through scoring, rebounding, or their positive energy and constant communication, each player stepped up when needed, demonstrating their growth and teamwork.

In Round Four, the U13 Boys faced Oakhill, unfortunately losing 46-36. Notable highlights included strong ball handling, teamwork, and successfully running set plays. Although turnovers and missed chances prevented a come back, the boys’ determination never wavered. The game highlighted key improvement areas, and the team remains determined to come back stronger for the next round.

Girls

Firsts

The Firsts Girls basketball team has enjoyed an excellent fortnight, recording dominant wins over St Paul’s (74–4) and St Spyridon (45–12).

The match against St Paul’s provided a valuable opportunity for the girls to develop their running game, with Lola Draguns, Bella Hitchenson and Poppy Peterson all delivering strong performances.

Against St Spyridon, the team produced outstanding attacking basketball, executing confidently and consistently against their opponent’s zone defence. Ruby Gale had her best game of the year, dominating the rebounds, while Ruby Brajkovic and Eadie Macarthur also played with great strength and impact.

Open B

The Open B Girls experienced their first loss of the season against SACS, but responded with determination, securing a strong win the following week against Barker.. Their teamwork, defensive pressure, and commitment to improving each week have been evident across the opening rounds.

In Round 3, the Seconds had a nail-biting contest against St Andrews, narrowly going down 37–38. The girls performed exceptionally well against an aggressive opposition and held the lead until the final moments of the game.

They bounced back superbly the following week, defeating Barker 36–6. Outstanding defensive intensity created numerous turnovers allowing the girls to run the floor confidently and score some excellent fast-break baskets.

Rounds 3 and 4

Girls

Seniors vs Redlands – Round 3 – Game 1

Our first game of the day was against Redlands, the girls started the day a bit tired but by the time the first whistle went, they were on. With some quick arrows and smart thinking Marley was able to evade numerous defenders to score a long range try not once, but twice. Then again with some quick feet and some agile movements, Ellie was able to cross over for our third try. With some excellent cover defence and hard work, the girls held out Redlands for the win. The Girls won their 1st game 3-2

Seniors Vs Barker – Round 3 – Game 2

Our game against barker was a close one. The girls were on this game, the arrows had worked, and we even were running set plays on the line. With our set play 'Roxy' we put Elli over. With some more Ellie razzle dazzle she was able to score 1 more try through the middle of the defence. Then with some more pure Brilliance and hard work Marley was able to score again through the middle through some tired defence. The girls put a lot of effort into this game and drew 3-3.

Firsts v’s SAS

The Seniors played out of their skin this Round 4 game. Facing SAS is always a hard game, but for the girls to come away with a 4-4 draw, considering the rain that poured during our game, is amazing. Yet again the girls worked tirelessly on defence covering for their teammates, and with some quick arrows  we were able to score a few tries. The Seniors also were happy to run numerous plays that they had learned during training with them playing of numerous times. A well fought game by the girls this round, very proud.

Juniors v’s SACS

The juniors played a very well-rounded game against SACS in Round 4. The girls were working hard in defence all game and with this effort only let in 1 try. In attack the girls were running wild. Both Tilly and Kelsie scoring by using both their speed and game awareness to run through the SACS line. The girls were also trying new plays on the line which is a sign they are learning. Very good game from the Juniors as they won 7-1.
