School Presentation Evening (Swing Band)Tuesday 16th December

2025 Term 4

As usual, the music department has been busy with many performances, right up to the end of the year. As we finish up the year, I would like to thank all the music families for their support, the music staff for their dedicated work, the general school staff (especially office and Hub staff) for their assistance and the students for their continued enthusiasm and drive to learn.

As our young musicians go off on holiday, I would like to remind them that their instruments work well at home, holidays being an ideal time to play and experiment with new pieces. Please make sure instruments are not left at school over the break.

Planning has already started for 2026, and things are shaping up well. In the meanwhile, we in the music department, wish everyone a relaxing and a well-deserved summer break.

Summer ‘Gala’ Concert

Last Thursday night, 4th December, the music department held the Summer ‘Gala’ Concert in Boucher Hall. Despite the very warm evening, the students performed at their best. Some highlights included Cody’s lovely solo with the senior band, the College Principal conducting the college orchestra and the entire music department’s performance of James Newman’s Czech Folk Song Fantasy. It was a wonderful evening, highlighting all the amazing work students have done this year.

Music Tour

Our talented music ensemble representing our College, performed and entertained so many students in their travels from East Gippsland to the Mornington Peninsula.   To see whole schools including staff, up dancing to some of the tunes they played and hundreds of primary school students breaking into song, resembling a choir during an orchestral Moama arrangement, brought many smiles and a magical feel wherever they played.

There were so many great pictures of the action we had to share more. Thank you to Mick Brooks for taking these photos.

Orientation Day Performance

The junior band performed at the orientation day assembly this week. This is a most important event in the music department’s calendar as it excites interest in the new students to learn a musical instrument when they get to the school. Thank you to all those students involved for their excellent work, both playing and setting and packing up.

AMEB

Each year in November we have a few students who complete AMEB (Australian Music Examination Board) exams on their instrument. The AMEB is an external examination body.  Students can choose to do a repertoire exam (pieces only) or a comprehensive exam (pieces, technical work, aural tests, sight reading and general knowledge). Students have to work hard preparing the music and working on their performance skills.

This year, we enrolled three students who travelled to Sale for their exams.

Cody: Grade 8 Comprehensive Saxophone - A+

Rebecca: Grade 4 Comprehensive Violin – A+

Maali: Grade 2 Comprehensive Cello – C+

Congratulations to all students on their wonderful results and thank you to their teachers and accompanists.

Presentation Evening

The final performance for the music department this year is the swing band performing for presentation evening on Tuesday 16th December.

2026 Enrolment

2026 reenrolment forms are now overdue. Any outstanding forms need to be returned to the music centre as soon as possible so that 2026 planning can go ahead. New students in years 8-12 wishing to join the music program can get a form from the music centre. There will be an information afternoon early in 2026 for new year 7 students wishing to join the program.
