Congratulations to Mrs Cooper for receiving a North West Schools Sports Association Excellence Award in recognition of her dedication to school sports over the past two decades!
Her unwavering commitment, exceptional organisational skills, and passion for student development have significantly impacted athletics throughout the New England zone and the North West Association.
Volunteering
Congratulations to Mrs Cooper and our students who contributed to the successful launch of the Regional Lifestyle Magazine on 15 November. The magazine showcases Tenterfield High School in a comprehensive 120-page feature on Tenterfield.
Jewellery Making
Students in Term 4 have the opportunity to create their own jewellery during lunchtime on Tuesdays. All necessary materials will be provided for those participating, allowing them to craft thoughtful Christmas gifts for friends and family.
Congratulations
We would like to congratulate Ms Olivia Parker on her permanent appointment as Head Teacher Science and TAS, following a successful merit selection process.
Ms Parker is an experienced and dedicated teacher and leader. Her strong organisational skills, enthusiasm and commitment to improving student outcomes have been clearly demonstrated throughout her time at THS. Well done!
Teacher Accreditation
Congratulations to Ms Keddy and Mr Douglas on achieving their Proficient Teacher Accreditation. The New South Wales Department of Education mandates that all teachers obtain this accreditation to teach in any public school within the state. This credential signifies a teacher's dedication to the continuous development and enhancement of effective practices aimed at improving student learning outcomes. To meet the benchmarks established by the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, educators are required to engage in ongoing professional development and provide evidence of their teaching practices.
Scholarship
Congratulations to Donna Pitkin on her selection to the “Grow Your Own” Principal's Choice Scholarship Program. This initiative is designed to support eligible current School Administrative and Support Staff (SASS) in rural areas as they pursue training to become teachers in New South Wales public schools. Donna will commence her university studies on March 1st. We commend her on this achievement and wish her all the best.
Year 10 Girls Program
Over the last few weeks, the Year 10 Girls have had the opportunity to participate in a Wellbeing Program to support the girls in feeling empowered to embrace their unique selves, build resilience and harness their confidence in themselves and their relationships.
The activities included a trip to Ballina which included Ten Pin Bowling, Putt-Putt Golf, Sand-sculpture on the beach and then to the water slide.
Day 2 featured Art Therapy which was an expressive and introspective workshop facilitated by Becky Jackson The girls produced an art piece expressing the concept of "I Am" on canvas
Day 3 Started with some fun activities at the Tenterfield Pool focused on team building, trust, problem solving and resilience. The final activity that afternoon was Ceramics with Kylie Heidrich. A great opportunity for the students to relax, create and explore a range of mindfulness techniques while producing some beautiful ceramic pieces."
Movember Fundraiser
Thank You to Mr Clay for Organising the Movember Fundraiser.
We are thrilled to announce that THS has raised $900 for this wonderful initiative through shirt sales and a lolly guessing game. A big congratulations to everyone for their support, especially those who grew their moustaches in solidarity! We look forward to making the event even bigger and better in 2026. Congratulations to our lolly jar winners: Ms. Olive, Lauren-May, and Kim!
Year 6 Orientation
On 2 December, our Year 7 class of 2026 attended Orientation Day. The students had a fantastic time exploring subjects such as Science, Agriculture, and PDHPE. Thank you to Mrs Koch, Mr Jones, Ms Parker, and Mr Cook for designing engaging lessons, as well as to all the student helpers for their support.
Highlanders Pipe Band
THS hosted the Tenterfield Highlanders Pipe Band in our MPU yesterday, showcasing the talents of several students who are members of the band. Additionally, tutorial sessions will be available in 2026 for any interested students.
Ballina Excursion
Our MC students visited the Ballina Aquatic Centre today as a well-deserved end-of-year reward. It was a great day to soak up the sunshine!
Rewards Day
THS makes a splash at the Tenterfield Aquatic Centre for their rewards day! Eligible students spent the afternoon enjoying the sunshine & pool games as a reward for their exemplary conduct this term. Well done students & thank you to the wellbeing team & support staff for organising a fun afternoon.
Independent Living Skills
Our Independent Living Skills students assisted in catering the Christmas party at the Tenterfield Railway Station Museum yesterday. It was a great day to express gratitude for their unwavering support of this program and for the dedicated efforts of the volunteers who help maintain the museum so beautifully. We look forward to continuing in 2026.
Senior Fundraising
Year 12 students were invited by the Tenterfield Chamber to provide sausage sandwiches and cold drinks during the late-night shopping event held last Thursday. Our students also stepped in to offer face painting and balloon animal creations due to a last-minute cancellation. The evening proved to be highly successful for both Year 12 and the community. Amber represented the school on Ten FM, promoting the event and Tenterfield High School. Thank you to the students & staff whose efforts made this event possible.
Health & Movement Science Christmas
Mrs Jones Year 11 Health and Movement Science class wrapped up the year with a jolly Secret Santa and festive joy! A big shoutout to Kenn, our student Santa, who played the role of gift-giver extraordinaire beneath their little Christmas tree. Well done!
Peer Support Program
Last week, Year 9 students successfully completed a Peer Support Program in collaboration with the wellbeing faculty. Students have the opportunity to nominate themselves as peer leaders for the upcoming year, where they will guide small groups of Year 7 students. This peer support initiative empowers participants, fosters positive relationships, enhances social and emotional skills, and contributes to a healthy school culture.
Year 9/10 Drama & Music Excursion
Nineteen students participated in the Year 9/10 drama and music excursion to Sydney last week. They immersed themselves in the local culture and enjoyed a taste of Chinese cuisine during dinner in Chinatown. The itinerary included a drama class, shopping, attendance at the stage musical “Back to the Future,” a visit to the Opera House, a walk halfway across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and a ferry ride to Manly. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience that will leave a lasting impression.
