2026 Classes and Teachers

Dear Trafalgar Primary School Families,

We are excited to share details about the upcoming Statewide Transition Day, Tuesday, 9th December. This important day provides students with the opportunity to spend time in their 2025 year-level classrooms, meet their teachers, and connect with their peers in preparation for the new school year.

The program for the day is as follows:

  • 9am: Students attend 2025 classes where they will learn about their 2026 class and teacher.
  • Between 9:30 am to 11:00 am: All students will complete a transition program with their 2026 class and teacher in their allocated 2026 classroom.
  • Students will be sent home with a note about their class, teacher and the name of a friend in their class.

We are pleased to confirm the current year-level structure for 2025:

  • Foundation: 3 classes
  • Year 1: 2 classes
  • Year 2: 3 classes
  • Year 3: 2 classes
  • Year 4: 2 classes
  • Year 5: 2 classes
  • Year 6: 2 classes

Students' class placements for 2026 have been carefully determined in accordance with the school’s Class Placement Policy. This policy ensures that placements support the social, emotional, and academic needs of every student.

For students currently funded under the Disability Inclusion Profile, a social story will be sent home, Monday 8th December. This will include information about their 2026 classroom, teacher, support staff, and other relevant details to help them prepare over the school vacation period.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we prepare for another successful year at Trafalgar Primary School.

Sincerely,

Cameron Nicholls

INTRODUCING OUR SCHOOL RULES

In the last school newsletter, we outlined the work underway on our Behaviour Curriculum, including a clear framework of values, rules, and routines. On Wednesday night, School Council formally endorsed our new School Rules, and we’re pleased to share them with our whole community.

At Trafalgar Primary School, we believe that every child deserves a calm, safe, predictable and orderly environment where they can flourish. That belief is underpinned by three shared values:

  • Be Safe
  • Be Respectful
  • Be a Learner

Our new School Rules make these values visible. They describe the expectations we hold for every student, every day. They are:

  • Follow staff instructions, the first time.
  • Speak and act politely
  • Be in the appropriate area
  • Be prepared to learn
  • Care for the learning environment
  • Own your actions

Importantly, we don’t just write rules;  we teach routines that help students live them. For example, our Value:Be Safe connects to our rule:  Follow staff instructions, the first time. To ensure students can and do meet this expectation,  in every classroom, we teach students a routine:

  1. Stop, Look, Listen- Silently
  2. Wait for the speaker to finish
  3. Show you understand with a nod or other positive acknowledgement.
  4. Ask questions politely
  5. Do what the staff member has asked straight away.

We model what this looks like, practice it, and positively reinforce it.  When this routine is followed, students feel secure, transitions are smooth, and learning time is maximised. In this way, routines prevent misbehaviour before it happens, and help students meet expectations with confidence and clarity.
