Year 7

As we approach the end of the school year, I could not be prouder of our fantastic Year 7 cohort. What an extraordinary journey this year has been—one marked by hard work, resilience, creativity, courage, and above all, God’s faithfulness in shaping each student throughout their first year of secondary school.

Term 4 has been incredibly busy, with several assessments and learning tasks across all subjects. I am delighted to celebrate that our Year 7s rose to the challenge and gave their very best. Their results reflect not only academic achievement but also steady growth, perseverance, and a willingness to step out of their comfort zones. Each student should feel deeply proud of what they have accomplished.

Beyond the classroom, our students demonstrated enthusiasm and teamwork in the Home Group Christmas Decorating Competition, bringing colour, laughter, and creativity into our corridors. Their participation in all classes continued to impress, consistently showing positive attitudes, respectful behaviour, and a genuine desire to learn. This semester also saw our students shine in several extracurricular experiences:

  • Instrumental Music Performance: Weeks of practice culminated in an energetic, polished, and truly sensational showcase; every performer demonstrated commitment and joy in sharing their gifts.
  • Interschool Sports: Many Year 7s joined the Year 12s on their final day to help accumulate points for their Houses, an incredible act of school spirit and teamwork.
  • Frozen JR. Production: Congratulations to all who took to the stage or worked behind the scenes. Their talents, confidence, and passion were evident in every scene, enchanting audiences and making our school community proud.
  • STEM Excursion to Ranges Tech: Students fully engaged with hands-on activities, engineering challenges, and problem-solving tasks—showing curiosity, collaboration, and a genuine love of innovation.
  • Gumbuya World Celebration Day: A well-earned day of fun, friendship, and laughter—enjoyed wholeheartedly by everyone.

Year 7 is a year of transformation. Our students have faced new routines, heavier workloads, social challenges, and the transition into a more independent stage of schooling. Yet they have shown remarkable resilience, maturity, empathy, and kindness toward one another. It has been a blessing to witness each student’s unique growth; academically, socially, and spiritually. We give glory to God for the way He continues to shape and strengthen them.

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

As we send them forward into Year 8, we do so with great confidence. I pray that each student continues to grow in wisdom, compassion, courage, and faith; that they carry the lessons of this year into every challenge ahead; and that they step boldly into the new year knowing they are capable, supported, and loved. To our Year 7s, well done on an exceptional year. May God bless you richly as you embark on your Year 8 journey. We look forward to seeing all the wonderful things you will achieve.

Student Reflections

What a blast! New friendships. Multiple teachers. More homework. This is Year 7! The school year has flown by so fast!  With the influx of a whole bunch of new students, we were able to grow so many new friendships and develop a strong bond throughout our entire year 7 cohort. This year has been filled with so many fun events that we were able to take part in including our camp to Anglesea, many sporting events including swimming and athletics carnivals, as well as just recently celebrating getting through our first year of Secondary School with an excursion to Gumbuya World! During this year we have grown so much and established a deeper level of responsibility—from keeping on top of all our homework to the first time taking home our own computers. I can’t wait to see what Year 8 has in store for us!

When I began Year 7 at Oxley, it felt like I was stepping into the unknown. Luckily the fog cleared quickly, and I found an awesome group of friends. The teachers were all supportive, homework was achievable and I learnt a lot of new and cool things in my variety of classes. Other than academics, we also had a lot of out of school experiences, whether that be Inter-school sports, Tech excursions, House Carnivals, going to the zoo and even most recently Gumbuya World! An opportunity I relished was Community Service which led me to serve in the kinder room at my church. One thing I appreciate about Oxley, is the Christian atmosphere, as I came from a public school, I value it even more. This year I had the privilege of being Home Group Captain, which led to numerous chances to lead and help my peers through our first year of high school. Year 7 at Oxley has introduced me to a new stage of life that I’ve loved and I am looking forward to learning, growing and achieving more next year and the years to come.
