Grade 6 Community News

Hello Grade 6 families!
As we near the end of Term 4, it’s been wonderful to see our Grade 6 students reflecting on their primary school journey while putting the finishing touches on their Scrapbooks. There is a real sense of excitement in the air as we prepare for several milestone events. In the coming weeks, students will take part in their Step-Up Day at their future high schools, celebrate their achievements at Graduation, and enjoy a well-earned day of fun at Funfields. It’s shaping up to be a memorable finish to their final year of primary school!
Reading
During weeks 7 and 8, our Grade 6 students have been working hard to strengthen their reading fluency. They have been practising reading aloud to a partner and giving constructive feedback on accuracy, expression, punctuation, and pace. Alongside fluency, students have also been developing their comprehension skills through a wide range of texts, including informational articles, fiction, nonfiction, and persuasive pieces. It has been great to see them becoming more confident, thoughtful readers as they prepare for the transition to secondary school.
Writing
In Writing, our Grade 6 students have continued working on their scrapbooks, carefully crafting pieces that celebrate their growth and memories from primary school. In week 7, they wrote their Grade 5 poem “I Have a Dream,” inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic speech, focusing on the hopes they had for themselves and their world. More recently, students created their Grade 6 Gratitude Poem, reflecting on the people, experiences and moments that have shaped their primary school journey.
Maths
In Maths, our Grade 6 students have been applying their understanding of the order of operations to solve increasingly complex problems. They have been learning how to break tasks into steps, choose efficient strategies, and explain their thinking clearly. This focus on problem solving is helping them build confidence and readiness for the mathematical challenges of secondary school.
