School Council Report

March School Council Meeting

The second School Council meeting for term one was held on 30th March, following our Annual General Meeting (AGM) where the FPS Annual Implementation Plan was presented by Paul. As mentioned in the previous newsletter, we were delighted to officially welcome our new councillors and also acknowledge the fantastic contributions of our outgoing members.

Thank You & Welcome

We extend a sincere thank you to our departing councillors – Penny Heaton, Jock Hutton, Emma McDonald and Huon Morton – for their time, energy and commitment to the School Council. We also warmly welcome our new councillors – Alistair Chapman, Emily Novatsis, Rebecca Collins, Renee Dislakis and Shae Hunter.

Next Steps

With a new School Council in place, we spent time organising for the year ahead by appointing our Office Bearers, approving Terms of References, and discussing subcommittee memberships. Our subcommittees (Finance, Policy, Buildings & Grounds and Social) do a lot of the work behind the scenes, and we’re always happy to have more people involved. If you’re interested, feel free to reach out to the school or a School Councillor.

Fundraising Focus for 2026

A key focus for the year ahead will be fundraising to support the school yard redevelopment. Council began exploring some ideas for bigger fundraising efforts – stay tuned for more exciting events and opportunities to get involved throughout the year.

There was some great discussion and approval for upcoming community fundraising events, including the Mothers & Special Persons’ Day Breakfast and the always fun Trivia Night – we hope to see many of you there!

Sign the Petition – School Crossing Safety

Another important topic was the Wingrove Street school crossing. Council discussed the current online petition advocating for improved safety, and we strongly encourage all families to take a moment to sign and support this initiative. At the time of writing, we have 145 signatures. We are aiming for 1000 signatures, so please forward this petition onto your family and friends: Please Sign the Crossing Safety Petition.

A Productive Start

All in all, it was a productive and positive start for the new School Council. We’re looking forward to working together to support our school and community throughout the year.
