Term 2 has begun!

Welcome back to everyone and welcome to all our few new students who have joined O’Connor this term. Term 2 is an exciting term filled with sporting events, extracurricular activities, school events and academic reports.

Congratulations to Tilly Patterson and Tyler Riggall on their achievements at the U16 National Hockey competition in the school holidays. Tyler’s team walked away with 8th while Tilly battled it out in the grand finale walking away with a silver medal. Congratulations to them both. Our U14s hockey players are also busy traveling around the state trialing for national teams - good luck to you all!

Our senior students have started getting their half yearly reports which include comments from their teachers. Make sure you read them carefully and ask any questions to your teachers and KLA leaders if needed. We will have Student/Parent/Teacher conferences later this term where you and your adults can check in with their teachers and get real time advice moving forward towards exams.

We were excited to hold the Athletics Carnival on Friday 8 May. Thank you to all students who got involved through chants, costumes and simply turning up and giving things a go. Your enthusiasm, participation and house spirit did not go unnoticed, and we truly appreciated the way students embraced the day.

Good luck to all our Drama and Music students with Eisteddfod over the next few weeks, the students always do their best and make the college proud. Also a mention to our Netball, Soccer, Football and Touch Football students who are getting ready for the various NSWCCC opportunities and gala days this term. Train hard and play fair!

On another note, a quick reminder to all students and families about the importance of wearing the correct school uniform. Taking pride in our uniform reflects the respect we have for ourselves, each other, and our school community. We ask that students wear full formal winter uniform including black, enclosed leather shoes, and ensure that only the school jumper or soft shell jacket is worn for warmth. The OCC hoodie and Canterbury gear are not part of our formal dress code. Uniform is a simple but important part of how we present ourselves and consistency in this helps build a strong sense of school connection.

Remember if you ever need to reach out myself and the PAC teachers are happy to talk over email or meetings.

La Salle

Term 2 has started with remarkable momentum, as La Salle students return with focus, energy, and a positive attitude. It has been encouraging to see everyone settling back into their routines so quickly and engaging fully with school life.

We would like to especially acknowledge the profound respect shown during our recent ANZAC Ceremony. We also extend our gratitude to our House Captains, Evie and Caitlin, and our Faith and Service Captain, Sienna, for their exceptional leadership in representing the College at the local ANZAC Day service. The genuine reverence displayed by our student leaders and the broader student body allowed us to honour those who have served in a deeply meaningful way.

Our senior students have already begun the rigorous work of their Term 2 assessments. Recently, our Year 12 students attended the UNE Career Focus Day, an opportunity for them to explore post-school pathways and begin visualising their future careers. To support their academic journey, feedback on progress for Year 12 is being provided through recent reports and Parent-Teacher Conferences. These conversations are vital for identifying strengths and areas for growth as students prepare for the important months ahead.

We are also very excited for our Year 7 group, who are looking forward to a fantastic time at their upcoming camp. This will be a wonderful opportunity for new friendships to be forged and for students to share memorable experiences that will stay with them for years to come.

Beyond the classroom, the term is already filled with multiple sporting opportunities and Eisteddfods. From team trials and inter-school competitions to the creative stage, it is fantastic to see so many students showcasing their talents and representing the College with pride. The energy in our House Meetings has been equally impressive as we gear up for the Athletics Carnival. We are looking forward to a day of strong participation, loud cheering, and a field of green.

Regarding school pride, a reminder to all students to wear their uniform correctly. For those looking for extra warmth, the new OCC tracksuit pants are available for purchase; they are a comfortable, high-quality addition to our kit. Please note that the hoodie is no longer part of the uniform and is not to be worn, and Canterbury tracksuit pants are also not permitted. We encourage students and parents to reach out to the College if they have any questions or concerns regarding these requirements.

Let’s keep this positive energy moving forward for a successful and memorable Term 2.
