After seven years away, it has been a pleasure to return to O’Connor, where my journey in education first began. It is wonderful to be back and to see the many positive changes that have taken place. The new facilities provide outstanding opportunities for productive, innovative learning, and the grounds are among the best you will find in any school.
Since leaving O’Connor, I have had the privilege of serving as Principal at three different schools, most recently at St Philomena’s in Moree. Each experience has contributed to my growth as an educator and leader, and I am grateful to bring that experience back to this community.
Since returning to O’Connor, I have noticed many positive changes across the school. The school has grown to around 530 students, with a student population that is increasingly diverse and rich in culture. I have been deeply impressed by the dedication of the entire staff—from the front office team to our classroom teachers. There is a strong sense of care, professionalism, and commitment to providing meaningful learning experiences for every student.
One message I consistently share with our students is that everyone has the opportunity to experience success. Our goal is for all students to engage in their learning, take pride in their achievements, and support one another. Being prepared for learning, including having the right equipment for each lesson, is an important first step toward achieving success.
What we have always prided ourselves on at O’Connor is our strong sense of community and the positive relationships that underpin everything we do. It is essential that we continue to work together—staff, students, and families—to support our young people and foster a thriving school environment.
Lastly it has been a pleasure meeting students and reconnecting with families, students coming up to me often asking if I know mum, dad or their siblings. What has been amazing for me is that I can honestly remember almost everyone. I look forward to continuing these connections and catching up with many more of you throughout the year.
