Two Under 15 Girls teams (Division 1 and Division 2) and one Boys team (Division 2) progressed to the State Championships, with all three squads rising to the occasion in what was a highly competitive tournament. Each team demonstrated skill, determination, and resilience, with all progressing through the group stages to reach the Round of 16—a significant achievement at a state-level competition.

The Girls Division 2 team went even further, advancing to the quarter-finals after a series of impressive performances. In a tightly contested match, they narrowly missed a place in the semi-finals, showcasing both their talent and fighting spirit until the very end.

Beyond the results, what stood out most was the strong sense of camaraderie across all teams. Players supported one another on and off the court, creating a positive and encouraging environment throughout the day. The level of competition was exceptional, providing valuable experience against some of the best school teams in the state.

All students represented the school with pride and sportsmanship. Their efforts, teamwork, and attitude made our whole school community proud.

Thank you to our Head of Basketball, Luke Carnegie, for all of his work in preparing our students for the 3x3 State Finals.

Seven students proudly represented our school, taking on the Rocky Trail Academy Race—an excellent entry point for junior riders that focuses on developing grassroots cycling skills. The event featured three timed Enduro-style stages, designed to challenge riders’ endurance, speed, and technical ability. Competitors were given up to five attempts on each stage, with their fastest time on each track contributing to their overall result.

Our students demonstrated determination, resilience, and teamwork throughout the day, achieving some fantastic results while, most importantly, enjoying the experience.

A big thank you to all the parents for their support, and congratulations to our riders for their outstanding effort and positive spirit.

Learning from a Cricket Great

The Nathan Lyon Summit Seminar was an engaging and insightful event that brought students together to learn from one of Australia’s most accomplished cricketers. Nathan Lyon shared his journey to success, highlighting the importance of perseverance, discipline, and maintaining a strong mindset both on and off the field. Both Jinaya and I gained valuable advice on handling pressure, setting goals, and embracing challenges, making the seminar an inspiring experience for everyone involved.

MAG Riders Deliver Outstanding Performances at Interschools States

The Moama Anglican Grammar Equestrian squad proudly represented the school at the Victorian Interschools State Championships, held at Boneo Park in the first week of the school holidays. Competing against the strongest riders from across the state, Charlotte Harris, Wynter Whipp, and Zara O’Donnell demonstrated outstanding commitment, skill, and sportsmanship throughout the event.

Across the competition, all three riders showcased their horsemanship and resilience in a highly competitive environment. Each student approached their events with focus and determination, navigating challenging courses and performing with confidence. Their preparation and consistent effort leading up to the championships were evident in the quality of their performances.

Congratulations to Charlotte Harris on an exceptional performance, winning a 75cm Secondary Show Jumping class and finishing 5th overall in her section. Wynter Whipp also achieved excellent results, earning strong dressage scores and jumping clear throughout the entire competition, reflecting her consistency and skill across multiple disciplines.

Zara O’Donnell delivered an outstanding performance across all three days, placing consistently to secure the 2026 Intermediate 90cm Showjumping Championship title. This significant achievement has earned Zara selection for the Victorian Interschools team, with the next competition to be held at the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre later in the year.

The students were well supported throughout the event by their families and Miss Stacey Briggs, whose guidance and encouragement contributed to a positive and successful experience despite the inclement weather conditions. Mr Scott Downward also joined the team to support them during the competition. The achievements of Charlotte, Wynter, and Zara are a testament to their hard work and dedication, and the school looks forward to their continued success in equestrian sport.

Early Mornings to Strong Finishes: Girls Rowing at Geelong

Head of Schoolgirls Rowing 2026

Over the past six months, you may have spotted a lone crew on the water at 7am, or after school, training along the Murray River or pushing through sessions on the rowing machines. That dedication led to an exciting milestone in March.

From 12–15 March, our Girls 1st Quad competed in Geelong at the world’s largest female-only regatta. Among more than 2,000 schoolgirls from across Victoria, Moama Anglican Grammar and Corowa Rowing Club stood out as the only interstate entrants.

Arriving early on Thursday gave the crew a unique opportunity to train alone on the full 1500m course. This allowed them to refine their race plan and take part in a long-standing tradition—hanging the Moama Anglican Grammar banner on the McKenzie Street footbridge, visible in the final 500m. As newcomers, the team attracted plenty of curiosity from other schools eager to learn more about Moama.

Friday

In their opening race, the girls lined up between two experienced Lauriston crews. Despite a patchy start, they showed determination to fight back, finishing third in a strong and consistent row.

Saturday

Undeterred, the crew focused on improving their time. A faster start saw them overtake Albert Park College and hold second place behind Melbourne Girls College, finishing four seconds quicker than the previous day. Confidence was high heading into Sunday’s final.

Sunday

With strong momentum and the energy of large crowds along the Barwon River, the girls delivered their best performance. They surged out of the start to match Lauriston, even building a brief lead. Lauriston’s experience ultimately proved decisive, and after an exhausting final stretch, Albert Park edged ahead at the line.

While the result was not what the crew had hoped for, their time was exceptional—fast enough to have won the B Final in a higher division.

This achievement reflects not only the commitment of the athletes but also the support of parents and staff who have attended countless early mornings and regattas. Rowing is truly a community effort, and we thank everyone involved for their ongoing dedication.

National Stage Success for MAG Athletes

Congratulations to our students Hannah Downward and Phoenix Wise, who recently represented Victoria at the National Junior Track and Field Championships in Brisbane, an incredible achievement!

Gallery Image

Hannah delivered another outstanding performance, claiming silver in the U17 high jump with an equal personal best of 1.69m. This result mirrors her silver medal success at the 2025 Nationals in Perth. She also stepped up to compete in the U20 high jump, finishing eighth overall as the youngest athlete in the field, a remarkable effort.

Phoenix arrived at the Championships in blistering form after clocking 11.18 seconds in the 100m. He qualified sixth fastest for the U16 100m National final, following an ultra-competitive heat decided by a photo finish.  While a hamstring strain meant Phoenix could not compete in the final, he took away from his first Nationals lots of experience and a desire to train hard through winter for next season and school athletics. Phoenix was also in the U16 high jump (retired hurt due to hamstring) and the U16 4x100m.

We are incredibly proud of Hannah and Phoenix for their dedication, resilience and sportsmanship on the national stage and we can’t wait to see what next season brings!
