Hello Parents and Friends,
Welcome back to Term 2! We hope that all families had a relaxing and enjoyable break. The weather has been perfect for the return to school. This has been especially beneficial as our House Cross Country event was held last week in perfect conditions. Our Prep – Grade 2 event was held at school while our Grade 3-6 students faced the dreaded hill at Templestowe Reserve. A huge thank you to Mr Van Der Pol for organising such successful events. Our Grade 5/6 students attended camp this week in Alexandra. We all attended the camp and the students had a magnificent time. Camp Alexandra is on a stunning site with loads of activities that challenge our senior students. This included high ropes, the flying fox, raft building and canoeing. We would like to thank our sensational teachers and parents that attended the camp.
Finally, our staff had a very important professional learning meeting last Wednesday as they completed CPR training. All staff are first aid trained at TPPS and this is one of the important strategies we undertake to keep our students and community safe.

Our COLA is now fully erected and we are so excited. The final electrical and plumbing works are being completed this week and we will sign off on the project next week. Weather permitting, asphalters will come in to repair the basketball court surface before the synthetic grass installers commence their work in the following week. The area will remain fenced off until all works are completed. We are hopeful that the completion date is before Thursday 21 May so we can have a grand opening at our Education Week Open Night. We will keep you all updated about the progress of the project via Compass.

Last week, we commemorated ANZAC Day at Templestowe Park. On Thursday, our school leaders and JSC leaders ( Elli, Lucas, Isaac and Bardia) attended the Schools ANZAC Day service at the Templestowe Memorial Reserve. Our school leaders represented our school community admirably and they laid a wreath at the cenotaph on behalf of our school.
On Friday, we held a special ANZAC Day assembly. Our school leaders did an outstanding job of expressing their gratitude to the mem and women that served our country at war or during peace keeping missions. Ms Somerville played the Last Post beautifully for our students and we all spent time reflecting during the ANZAC Ode and minute of silence. We were so impressed with our students at our assembly as they exhibited such respect throughout the entire commemoration.

The Taste of School sessions are designed to give pre-school children their very first experience at school in a fun, safe and engaging environment.
Students can attend both a Visual Arts and Sport session over two consecutive weeks or just attend for one session. Students will be placed in either a Visual Arts or Sport session by the school. We will inform you and your child what session they will be attending on arrival.
These sessions are not compulsory and you are not expected to attend both if you are not able to do so – we just like having you here when we can.
Please complete the Google Form by Wednesday 6 May @ 4pm. A confirmation email will be sent to you shortly after this time with important information about attending the session.

As you are all aware, we saw outstanding improvements in student attendance in Term 1 2026. Over 300 students received an attendance certificate last term by being at school over 95% of the time. Pleasingly, 140 students had a 100% attendance record. Please see the table below for the difference between Term 1 attendance in 2025 and 2026.
Attendance categories | Term 1 2025 | Term 1 2026 |
100% Attendance | 22% of students | 34% of students |
Average absence per student over an entire year | 15.1 days | 9.6 days |
Attendance rate for school | 92% | 95% |
Year award - Students that have 100% attendance for the entire school year will receive a special badge that can be worn at school. They will also receive a school drink bottle and attend a special lunch with the Principal. Currently there are 140 students eligible for this award.
These are excellent results and we are focussed on continuing them throughout the year. Please see the 'Attendance News' section of our newsletter for assistance in maintaining excellent attendance.
We are looking forward to celebrating Education Week from Monday 18 May to Friday 22 May. The Education Week theme in 2026 is 'Showcase your school', and Templestowe Park has plenty to show!
We will be hosting an Open Morning and Night at the following times.
Please stay tuned to Compass for a full schedule of events during Education Week.
Our Open Day/Night is an extremely popular event and has hundreds of community members attend.
We look forward to celebrating Education Week with you!

At our assembly last Friday, we were so pleased to make a special presentation to Eliza in Grade 6. Late last year, Eliza spent months writing and illustrating a hybrid text (a writing piece that combines a narrative with factual information). Eliza wrote a thoroughly entertaining story about a family’s journey through the universe. Eliza wrote a funny and thoroughly entertaining story that also taught the audience about space. The illustrations that accompanied her words were truly beautiful.
We were so impressed with the story that we vowed to have it professionally published as a book. At our assembly, Eliza’s Grade 5 teacher, Mrs Tasmoen, attended the assembly to make the presentation of the published book. It was so nice to see Mrs Tasmoen as she returned with her newborn son, Dante. Eliza was over the moon with her book (no pun intended). We have also purchased more copies of the book to have in our school library and office foyer.
We are so proud of Eliza and the work she put into producing this outstanding book. We believe she will have a very bright future in the literary world.

One of our extremely talented Grade 6 students is currently away from school at the present time as she films a television series that will be released in 2027. It is a very well known show that we are unable to share the name of at this stage. Teya works extremely hard at her craft and has appeared in a range of different stage, dancing and television shows/commercials. She works just as hard in the classroom and she is doing a magnificent job of juggling both at the present time.
We can’t wait to see you on the TV next year, Teya!

A couple of weekends ago, Hudson M in Grade 4 participated in the Baseball Little League State Championships and his team were crowned as champions. Hudson's team was undefeated for the tournament and have now qualified to represent Victoria in the Nationals in July. Hudson was the starting catcher for his team and he caught every innings of every game over the weekend, which is a huge task for a 10-year-old playing in an U12 competition.
We wish Hudson the very best for the Nationals in July. He is a very talented young baseballer and we know it is his dream to one day play in the Major Leagues. Keep up the hard work Hudson, and your dreams can come true.
Next Thursday and Friday, Robyn Twyford and Mark Roberts will be attending the Monash Manningham Principals Conference at the RACV Cape Schank Resort. Over the two days, we will undertake professional learning with other Network Principals and discuss important educational initiatives from the State Government. Mr Brian Cleary will remain at school during this time. We will provide an update on our learnings from the Conference in our next newsletter.
Term 2 curriculum overviews for all Grades have been published on Compass. Within these overviews you will find out what your child is learning in all curriculum areas, the Positive Education focus for the term, homework requirements, Specialist days and the teachers’ contact details.
All term overviews are permanently kept in the Community Section of Compass (choose School Documentation from the dropdown menu then School Community Information then the year level folder that you wish to access).

To avoid disappointment and to support the safety and well-being of all students, we
request that Parents and Carers read the following guidelines about birthday treats at school carefully.
At TPPS, we have a number of students who are anaphylactic or have severe allergies to a range of foods. Anaphylaxis is a severe, rapidly progressive allergic reaction that is potentially life threatening. Certain foods and insect stings are the most common causes of anaphylaxis.
It is very difficult to monitor the ingredients in foods that are brought in for birthdays. It is for this reason that we ask families to please follow these guidelines when bringing food to the school for a birthday.
These guidelines will be strictly adhered to by teachers and all school staff.
Birthday treats will be distributed to students at the end of the school day. If birthday treats do not meet the above guidelines, the treats will be returned home.
It is perfectly acceptable not to bring in treats and we will celebrate each child’s birthday in the class by singing 'Happy Birthday' to them. As a school we never supply food or drink as rewards for students. School-wide rewards systems include certificates, ribbons, class games, etc.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Have a fantastic weekend!
Mark Roberts Brian Cleary Robyn Twyford
