At St Joseph’s, we celebrate that every student journeys through their learning at a unique pace. However, a common challenge all learners face—adults included—is a phenomenon known as the Forgetting Curve.

Have you ever mastered a new skill, only to find it’s slipped away a few weeks later? When we first learn something, it sits in our immediate memory. Without regular use, those new neural pathways can fade, often requiring us to relearn the information from scratch.

The secret to "sticky" learning is spaced repetition. By practicing a skill immediately and then revisiting it at regular intervals, students build stronger connections in the brain. This transforms a new concept into an automatic skill they can recall and apply with confidence.

We understand that after a busy school day, finding the energy for home learning can be a challenge. However, establishing a consistent daily routine is vital.
Focusing on the "Big Three"—Reading, Word Work, and Basic Maths—not only reinforces academic skills but also helps your child develop the organisational habits they will need for life.
Reflect & Connect:
- Is your child reading for pleasure every night?
- How are you building small moments of practice into your home routine?
Working together, we can ensure the progress your child makes in the classroom stays with them for the long term. Thank you for your continued support in your child’s learning journey!
