Year 7 English

In Year 7 English we have just completed our Famous Speeches Research and Oratory Task. Year 7 was impressive as a whole. With each student getting on stage in the auditorium, alone, and giving a speech. This is immensely difficult for many adults to do and I was extremely proud to see all our students confidently speaking and encouraging each other.

Year 9 Careers Fair

This term, our Year 9 students have been conducting research into a career of interest to them, either a career they think they may like to pursue themselves or simply one they find interesting. They then used their research to create an information stall, informing other students in the Senior School about their chosen career.

The career fair was held last Friday, with each student designing promotional materials to hand out, along with other aspects relevant to their career such as props and costumes or uniforms. The vibe in the Library classroom was great as students across the senior school mingled and discussed the various careers being presented. It was great to see the efforts the Year 9 students had gone to and their creativity in stall design.

VCE Business Management - Bega Field Trip

On Monday 3rd June, the VCE Business Management class visted the Bega factory in Koroit. Here are some summaries of the trip written by students:

The field trip to Bega was great, was a good experience and was interesting to see all of their operations. We want to gain more knowledge about operations management which we are currently learning in class and have been learning about for quite some time. It was an inspiring experience and I got a lot of knowledge from it. We got to see how the milk turned into butter and powder. I also learnt about lactoferrin and the different types of machines they operate in the factory. They export some of the products overseas and have a range of 190 farmers supplying milk. As well as a forecast of 305+ ML of milk and a capacity of 3.6ML. All went well and it was a great experience. - Kayla J

On Monday the third of June we went to the Koroit Bega factory. I learnt that 135 employees are working in the Koroit factory making cheese and milk powder. I was also informed of their great water recycling program where they recycle and reuse lots of water and send some grey water to farmers. An interesting fact was that the factory can make a max of 6 metric tons of butter an hour. Chris, Bella, Jess and Neil took us on a tour through the factory where we learnt a lot about making milk powder. This was a great experience for Business Management. - Jacob D

The field trip to Bega was a cool experience, getting toured around all the different types of facilities they have there was neat. Seeing the process of how it goes from the milk pumps to on our shelves in about an hour. Learning about lactoferrin was interesting too, I didn't know it was a thing before the trip, but I learnt how expensive it was at about $800 per kilo. Learned that they work on what they call a circular economy, which is used to try and reduce waste made from the factory by using the wastewater and irrigating the land for the cows. They have 190 farmer suppliers with a forecast of 305+ ML of milk, with a milk capacity of 3.6ML. - Solomon K

Year 12 Passover Meal

On Wednesday afternoon in our Christian Studies and Personal Development lessons, Year 12 participated in a rather belated Passover meal. This included reading a traditional script and even singing some of the traditional seder songs. The meal was meant to be held last term but had to be delayed on several occasions. It was the end of a unit we had been doing in Christian Studies on the various Jewish festivals and the links we have between Old Testament traditions and Christianity.
