Welcome back to Term 3!
It’s been great hearing all of the wonderful holiday stories from the students! As we start a new semester, it is a perfect opportunity to start fresh and apply all the knowledge and skills we gained in Semester 1.
In our classrooms we’ve been engaged in new learning about narratives, and the students have been excited to begin writing their own picture story books. In Maths, we’ve been learning about mapping and location, where we’ve enjoyed learning about the features of maps and exploring compass directions.
Congratulations to those students who participated in Hoop Time on Wednesday! They had an amazing day competing against other schools at the State Basketball Centre. All teams played well and our All Star Girls team were finalists. A big thank you to all those who volunteered their time to help make the day a huge success!
We are all very excited about our whole school production, Mr. Blue Sky, and have started weekly rehearsals. The students are all working hard to perfect their class dances. We can’t wait for production night.
Let’s make this term amazing!
From the Level 3/4 Team
Caz Sheaf, Caroline Foenander, Larissa Holdsworth and Sue Hartley
Visual Arts
This term Visual Arts will be taught by Mr Lachlan Byass, as Karen Coster will be on Long Service Leave for most of the term. Students will start the term learning about Keith Haring. They will create an Olympic Games collage using a Keith Haring inspired figure. Later in the term students will explore optical illusions and drawing.
Mandarin
To be advised when Ms Hou returns from Long Service Leave.
Science
During Term 3, students in Year 3/4 will be learning about natural and processed materials. They will be exploring the properties of materials and how these properties can influence their use. Students will also be investigating how different materials decompose.
Performing Arts
Students will learn to tune, name strings, and form chord shapes on the ukulele. They will understand the concept of a simple chord progression using two and three chords, and work towards changing freely between chord shapes. With these ukulele skills, students will be able to perform a selection of popular music and attempt song writing with their own lyrical and melodic ideas.
Physical Education
This term Physical Education will be taught by Mr Lachlan Byass, as Karen Coster will be on Long Service Leave for most of the term. In Week 2 students have the opportunity to participate in Hoop Time at the State Basketball Centre, and some of our students will attend Division Athletics in Week 10. This term students will learn the sports of AFL football and soccer.
