Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
We’ve come to the end of a really successful term and I’m sure all families are looking forward to a well-deserved holiday. It was so great to celebrate 98 students who have had 100% attendance this term and also the classes with the highest attendance in Term 2, congratulations to 4JR , 6JC, and 2VL.
It was wonderful to see so many families join us at the Student Led Conferences last week, the Celebration of Learning on Tuesday as well as the Assembly today.
It was a fantastic way to end the term, highlighting the students achievements and showcasing the Year 4-6 performances. Your attendance and applause made the event even more special and memorable for everyone. We are very proud of our Student Leaders who have taken over the running of the whole school Assemblies and for their enthusiasm in raising awareness for Refugee Week, NAIDOC Week, Sustainablilty issues, coordinating Student Vs Teachers matches and so much more.
A reminder that tomorrow is a Curriculum day and there is no school for students. All school staff will be undertaking Professional Learning. In the morning we are completing Community Understanding Training (CUST) and in the afternoon Refugee Education Support Program (RESP). These two areas of learning link to our Wellbeing goal: to embed systems of support that enhance wellbeing, inclusion and engagement.
Community Understanding Training (CUST)
Community Understanding and Safety Training (CUST) increases understanding of Koorie culture, history, and experiences. The purpose of the training is to ensure a strong foundation for culturally inclusive schools and practices, which can have a positive impact on Koorie students’ health and wellbeing. CUST aligns with the Framework for Improving Student Outcomes, and the priority of creating a positive climate for learning.
Refugee Education Support Program (RESP)
Students of refugee backgrounds have different educational starting points compared with other students. The effects of disrupted schooling, past traumatic events and current settlement challenges mean students often require additional support. Staff will be learning about refugee experiences and the impact on learning and wellbeing and trauma informed practices for supporting recovery.
As we head into the school holidays I want to wish you all a safe and happy break. We look forward to the exciting opportunities and learning experiences that Term 3 will bring.
Kind regards,
Rachel Griffiths, Acting Principal
