Quick repairs to get the school operational again
The NSW DoE did a story on the recent storm impact on KHS. The storm caused significant harm to the school’s infrastructure, making it unsafe for students and staff. Repairs were promptly initiated to ensure a safe learning environment. The school reopened once all safety checks were completed.
On the first weekend in August, storms tore through the NSW Mid North Coast, severely damaging Kempsey High and other local schools. Fierce winds ripped off part of a roof at Kempsey High and flooded rooms.
Debris littered the grounds, power lines had snapped, and the school had to close for safety reasons.
An extraordinary team effort saw the Kempsey High community and the NSW Department of Education swing into action to ensure the school was able to re-open as quickly as possible.
As a result, it is smooth sailing ahead for Kempsey High’s trial HSC exams starting next week, Director, Educational Leadership, Melinda Brady said.
“They’ll run from Monday 18 August through to Tuesday 26 August,” Ms Brady said.
Regional Director, North Coast, Brad Townsend said the remarkable effort showed what is possible when a dedicated team are backed by robust processes and genuine care for the students and community.
“That depth of support and expertise backs every one of our schools,” Mr Townsend said.
“Not just during emergencies, but every single day. Thank you to the team who worked tirelessly to reopen Kempsey High School.”
