PRODUCTION COSTUME INFORMATION
Dear Murrumbeena Families,
With less than three weeks to go until our spectacular production of Madagascar Jr., alongside our Prep–Year 3 showcase Rhythms of the Wild, it’s time for an exciting update!
Students are working incredibly hard in rehearsals and have already begun full run-throughs. Spoiler alert: it’s looking AMAZING! This is shaping up to be a performance to remember. As I walk through the yard, I constantly hear students singing and see them enthusiastically practising their dances. Their energy and excitement are truly inspiring.
If you haven’t secured your tickets yet, please do so as soon as possible — only about 30 remain and they’re available for any family to purchase.
COSTUMES
Every performer will be provided with a high-quality, professionally selected costume designed to help them shine on stage and fully embrace their role. A huge amount of effort has gone into sourcing and sizing these costumes so every child feels confident and special in their performance.
What we need from you: We kindly ask that each student wears black shoes and black socks. These can be any safe-to-dance-in option: runners, ballet flats, school shoes, or inexpensive canvas shoes from Kmart or Big W.
Why black shoes? Great question! With thousands of costume pieces in every colour, shape, and style, black shoes are a practical and effective choice.
- They match every costume
- They blend seamlessly on stage
- They’re easy to find and often inexpensive
- They give teachers and parents one clear, simple answer: “Black!”
Of course, students will still be able to perform if they don’t have the correct shoes, but your support in this small detail makes a big difference and is greatly appreciated.
IMPORTANT COSTUME INFORMATION
- Most costumes will be sent home in a labelled bag on Thursday, 4 September. Please treat these with care.
- Some larger costume items or accessories will stay with the class teacher and be taken directly to the theatre.
- Students are welcome to wear a black singlet, t-shirt, leggings, stockings, or shorts underneath their costume for comfort, if desired.
- Students do not need to wear or bring their costume to school on the day of the performance (Friday, 5 September).
- If your child’s costume is sent home, they must arrive at the theatre wearing it by 6:00 PM (unless it’s being provided by the teacher on site).
- All costume pieces must be returned to school by Monday 8 September. A late return may incur a fee.
If your child won’t be at school that day, please inform the class teacher in advance so they can collect the costume after the performance.
Please do not wash, alter, or clean the costumes.
Thank you once again for your ongoing support – and for all the extra singing and dancing we know is happening at home!
Production Badges - Celebrate the Magic of Every Show!
Wondering how production season could possibly get even better?
Imagine having a fun, collectible keepsake from every show you've been a part of!
Something you can proudly wear to say, “It’s production term – let’s go!”
Well, great news – Production Badges are here!
This year, the Year 6 Arts Team is excited to design and sell custom production badges. These colourful badges can be worn on your school uniform, clipped to your bag, hat, or pencil case, or proudly displayed at home.
Want to complete your collection? We’ve got you covered!
Past production badges from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (2024), Shrek (2023), and even Aladdin (2022), will also be available.
Special edition badges are also available for Dance Captains, Cast, and Crew. Just select the production badge you need when ordering, and we’ll make sure the right one is issued upon collection.
Each badge is only $2 and can be purchased through the Qkr canteen app. A limited number will also be available at the school office. Once your badge is ready, the Arts Team will let you know when to collect it from the Performing Arts Room.
Hot tip: To avoid lost badges, we recommend writing your name and grade on the back using a permanent marker.
Let’s celebrate every production – one badge at a time!
Important Order Information:
Final orders close at 8am on Tuesday 26th August.
No further badge orders will be taken after this time.
Please be patient:
While we are endeavouring to get badges out within a week of ordering, we have been overwhelmed with the amount of badges ordered and are doing our best to keep up. If you haven't received your badges yet, even after 2 weeks, please be patient. We will get them to you ASAP.
Please ensure your child’s name is written on the back of their badge.
With so many badges being distributed, we are unable to replace any that are lost.
Looking ahead to 2026:
From next year, we will only be selling the badge for the current production.
We will no longer be accepting orders for badges from previous productions.
If you would like to order badges from Aladdin, Shrek, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, or Madagascar, you must place your order before 8am on Tuesday 26th August, 2025.
Thank you so much for your ongoing support and enthusiasm for our production. I look forward to seeing you at the theatre!
