Parent/Guardian Survey-Importance of the Survey

The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. It will be open for parents / caregivers / guardians to complete between Monday 18 August and Friday 19 September. Parents who receive an invitation will be provided with a school PIN and a link to complete the survey. We hope that all parents who receive the survey can spare a few minutes to complete the survey- we would be extremely grateful for your support. Rollins will use the survey results to inform school planning and the development of programs and initiatives to support our students.

New Therapy Dog

Therapy dogs provide affection and comfort to various members of the public and organisations, typically in facility settings such as schools, hospitals, retirement homes. These pets have a special aptitude for interacting with people and enjoy doing so.

As parents are aware that Lachie Wright has taken leave for 12 months. Unfortunately, this meant that Nala, our therapy dog, has left to.

We have been extremely lucky to have secured another therapy dog – “Indie” who with her handler (Lachie Sperling) last weekend completed all her training and passed with flying colors. Congratulations to you both and welcome to Rollins Indie!

Tips for Getting Children Ready for Bed

Getting children ready for bed can be a challenge, but a consistent and calming routine makes a big difference. Here are practical, age-appropriate tips that work for many families

🌙 General Tips for All Ages

  1. Set a Consistent BedtimeSame time every night helps regulate their internal clock.
  2. Start the Wind-Down Routine Early Begin 30–60 minutes before bedtime with quiet, calming activities.
  3. Limit ScreensTurn off TVs, tablets, and phones at least an hour before bed—blue light interferes with melatonin production.
  4. Create a Bedtime RoutineA predictable sequence like:
    • Bath or shower
    • Pyjamas
    • Brush teeth
    • Storytime or calm talk
    • Lights out
  5. Dim the LightsLower lighting signals the brain to prepare for sleep.
  6. Use a Visual ScheduleFor younger kids, a chart with pictures of bedtime steps can make the routine easier to follow.
  7. Offer ChoicesLet them choose their pyjamas or bedtime story—helps them feel in control without stalling.

👶 For Toddlers (1–3 years)

  • Keep Routine Short (20–30 mins): They have shorter attention spans.
  • Use Transitional Objects: Favorite blanket or stuffed animal offers comfort.
  • Be Calm but Firm: Set boundaries gently but clearly. They’ll test limits.
  • Nightlight: If they’re scared of the dark, a soft nightlight can help.

🧒 For Preschoolers (3–5 years)

  • Talk About the Day: A quick reflection helps them process and relax.
  • Use a Sleep Timer or Alarm Clock: Visual “okay to wake” clocks can teach boundaries.
  • Limit Beverages Before Bed: To avoid overnight bathroom trips.

🧠 Extra Tips for Active or Anxious Kids

  • Calming Techniques: Deep breathing, light stretching, or mindfulness stories.
  • Soothing Sounds: White noise or gentle music.
  • Avoid Stimulating Books: Choose relaxing, low-drama stories.

🛏️ Sleep Environment Checklist

  • ✅ Room is cool, quiet, and dark
  • ✅ Comfortable bed and bedding
  • ✅ No loud toys, bright lights, or clutter in sleep space

Now cross your fingers and hope for a rest!
