From our Year Five/Six Classrooms
Athletics Day
Athletics Day was postponed due to weather. The new date is the 9th of September. Our students were disappointed but are looking forward to some more time training during recess and lunch. We are all proud of their resilience during this time.
Camp Information
Currently we do not have the minimum amount of numbers to attend camp. If you are interested in sending your child to camp and have not paid the $50.00 deposit to the office then please do so by the 2nd of September. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Ms. Reanna.
Transition
As term 4 starts to approach our grade 6 students are becoming eager as well as nervous to hear more about their Secondary School . As we receive information from the Secondary schools regarding transition days we will inform you as soon as possible. Please see our Grade 6 transition display in the 5/6 classroom foyer, there is already information from Glenroy College. Some Secondary Schools are offering scholarships to support families. We encourage all our grade 6 students to participate in this.
Graduation
As well as transition , our graduation is coming very quickly for our grade 6 students. Please ensure you have sent through a baby photo of your child so we can delight in the tremendous growth they have achieved over their schooling. Early in Term 4 the 5/6 teachers will be seeking support from parents to form a Graduation working party. Just like the saying " It takes a village to raise a child" it also "Takes a village to create a graduation" . The 5/6 team look forward to working with you to create a wonderful evening for the graduates.
Current Learning
Literacy: Students have been developing their knowledge of Historical recounts and have gained a strong understanding of Australian History during the 1800s. Students have learnt about historical figures such as Jandamarra and Ned Kelly. It would be great if you could start a conversation over dinner
History
On the 8th of August my Mum and I brought in our family's possum skin cloak to present to my class. We shared what it is used for and how long it took my mum to stitch each panel together to make one big cloak for my family. My Mum took it around the class so everyone could feel how soft it is and have a closer look at the skins. Some of the skins are raw and haven’t been cut so you can see where their faces and legs went, you could feel the tails as well.

5/6A Cooking Reward
On Monday, our class celebrated reaching an incredible 27,000 Dojo points! Throughout Term 1 and 2, we earned points for showing our school values in all areas of the school. Instead of using the rewards straight away, our class made the decision to save them up for something really special. It took a long time, but our teamwork and persistence paid off!
Before our reward day, we worked together to plan a special menu. We listed the ingredients we needed and thought about who could help us. We invited Ms. TM, Ms. Soley, Ms. Carol and Mr. Paul to support us in different ways, and we also asked our principal for permission to use the kitchen.
Before any cooking began, we spent two hours learning about Meadows Kitchen rules and practising how to stay safe. After that, we split into three groups, each responsible for one part of the menu. Together, we discussed the food we were making, the equipment we needed, and the safety rules that were most important. For example, the spaghetti group focused on fire safety, while the tabbouleh group needed to practise safe knife skills.
We had an amazing time cooking in the kitchen and we all stayed focus and safe . At the end of cooking we all sat down at the table for lunch. We had special guests come join us and they loved the food that was prepared.
Thankyou to everyone who supported us! We are hoping to have another cooking reward as soon as we reach our next 27,000.
