Upper Primary Term 3
A mix of First Nations-inspired storytelling, papier-mâché, and an exploration of primary, secondary, warm and cool colours—the easiest way to sum up a jam-packed term in Upper Primary Visual Arts.
With a shorter-than-usual term to work with, the Primary years took the chance to revisit familiar concepts, aiming to embed understanding for their artistic futures. Throw in some silly songs and a growing sense of independence in the learning space, and each lesson was its own bit of organised chaos.
The Upper Primary students have been improving their laptop and keyboarding skills this term. They have been creating animations using their laptops and displaying their learning by making PowerPoint presentations.
Upper Primary have been working hard on their ensemble work this term, with some class jams on various instruments and then learning parts of the song APT to play as a band. While a lot of fun, students have made some great progress with their instrumental skills.
This term, students in Upper Primary have been learning about AFL football and practising motor skills like running, dodging, handballing and punting. Students attempted to complete these skills in various environments, including the gym and Concord Oval. They practised teamwork and communication in small groups and game settings to try to be successful.
Students enjoyed the Primary Sports Day at the end of term, where they participated in a range of physical activities, practising various motor skills. They enjoyed the day out, dancing to music and having a fun and physical time with their classmates.
During the Upper Primary Sexuality Program, students explored important topics including public and private body parts, places, behaviours, and how to talk about these respectfully and appropriately. They also examined the different stages of human development, gaining an understanding of the key characteristics of each stage—particularly an introduction to puberty during the teenage years. It has been wonderful to see students grow in confidence as they’ve developed a deeper understanding of the human body and how it changes over time.
