Upper Primary Learning

UPA

Term 3 has flown by, filled with fun, learning, and meaningful connections. Our discovery focus this term was plants, giving students hands-on opportunities to explore how plants grow and the journey they take before reaching our plates. The UPA class has thoroughly enjoyed watching the seeds they planted sprout and thrive, taking responsibility for watering their plants each week.

In Maths, students have continued to build on their understanding of place value through a variety of engaging, hands-on activities designed to support their learning goals. The term was packed with memorable highlights, including the Big Day Out excursion, Primary Sports Day, Book Week dress-up day, and our much-loved weekly visits to the library.

I am incredibly proud of every student’s progress this term and excited to see their continued growth as we move into Term 4.

UPB

It’s amazing how quickly Term 3 has flown by! This term has been a vibrant chapter of learning, exploration, and meaningful connections in the UPB classroom.

Our Discovery Unit, The Wonder of Plants, led us on an exciting adventure into the natural world. The students investigated different seeds from fruit and vegetables and took on the role of young scientists by dissecting fruits and flowers and labelling different parts of the plants. They enjoyed discovering what plants need, how they grow and their influence on our everyday lives. Their knowledge and interest in plants have blossomed through all the great discussions we’ve had.

In Social communication, we have learned some core words (more, it, help, finish) and the students actively incorporated them in chats with each other and social games.

In addition, Term 3 was full of memorable highlights—Pyjama Day brought cozy vibes, Book Week sparked imaginations, and Big Day Out was a blast. These experiences helped the students bond even more and create some lasting memories together.

A big thanks to Amelia for being a fantastic Class Captain and to Sarah for her awesome work as SRC. And of course, a special shoutout to our ES Fiona—her calm, caring presence makes such a difference every single day.

To all our families, thank you for your continued support. We’re excited for what’s ahead in the final stretch of the 2025 school year!

UPC

In UPC, we have had a busy and exciting start to the term! We welcomed Jessica, our new teacher, and Mohid, a new classmate, and everyone has helped them feel part of our community.

Students have loved exploring our Discovery Unit, Discovering the Wonder of Plants, especially getting their hands dirty with soil, growing grass, and dissecting plants to see what’s inside.

In Mathematics, we have been working hard on place value, with students enjoying using games and hands-on materials to practise their skills.

Anti-Bullying Week gave us the chance to learn more about being kind, respectful and inclusive.

We also celebrated Book Week with colourful costumes and stories. A highlight was the Grade 4–5 Big Day Out excursion, which students said was “the best day ever!”

UPD

The expression ‘Time flies when you’re having fun’ certainly applies to Term 3 in UPD.

The students have been enthralled by all the fun and enriching experiences this term. These activities have led to fantastic writing and oral language opportunities.

Students began the term by investigating fruit and vegetable seeds, such as pumpkin, strawberry, cucumber, apple, tomato and mandarin seeds. They planted a bean seed from a string bean to see if it would grow in the classroom environment. We didn’t have much luck with the bean seed, but had lots of success growing some grass seeds, which the students have observed daily and taken turns to water. Our sunflower seeds also grew very well. It was exciting to conduct an experiment with real worms to find out if they prefer dry or moist conditions or light or dark environments. We discovered they like a moist and dark environment to live in. We added our worms to the section worm farm and collected food scraps, such as banana peels to make compost for the worms. We also dissected a lily flower to investigate the many different parts of a plant.

During Book Week the students enjoyed listening to 9/10 students read some favourite books.

To round off the term the Grade 4/5 students had a Big Day Out at Hoopla, enjoying all the exciting activities. Our swimming program in week 9 finished off a busy term.

In Maths, the students have thoroughly enjoyed learning and honing their addition and subtraction skills by using the strategies of ‘counting on’ and ‘counting back’, with the support of number lines.

All in all, it has been a jam-packed term full of learning and authentic experiences that have promoted life-long learning.

UPE

It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached the end of another busy, fun-filled term!

Throughout Term 3, UPE has been embracing the Fair and Friendly Play initiative, and it has been wonderful to see students building positive friendships that are full of care, kindness, and laughter.

Our Discovery Unit, The Wonder of Plants, has taken us on an exciting journey into the world of nature. Students explored how tiny seeds grow into plants, carried out hands-on experiments to discover what plants need to thrive, and even became little scientists as they dissected fruits and flowers to study seeds up close. They especially loved exploring how plants are part of our everyday lives, from food to natural dyes and even beautiful scents through tasting, dyeing, and scent-making activities. Their writing and labelling tasks have captured this learning so well, showing just how much their knowledge and curiosity have grown.

Of course, the term hasn’t been all about plants! Students also had a wonderful time celebrating Pyjama Day, jumping into the Swimming Program, and enjoying the excitement of the Grade 4/5 Big Day Out. Each of these activities brought lots of smiles, laughter, and memories that will stay with us long after the term has ended.

What an incredible journey it has been so far! UPE is looking forward with enthusiasm to all the opportunities and adventures that await in the final term of the 2025 school year.

UPF

Term 3 has been full of learning, growth and fun.

In our classroom, UPF students discovered the wonder of plants and explored addition and subtraction, learning a variety of strategies to solve problems.

In Social Competence, they practiced problem-solving skills through engaging games. Many students also joined the L2P Sports Edition, enjoying footy at lunchtime, while we wrapped up the term with four fantastic days of swimming at WaterMarc.

We would like to extend our thanks to Victoria, our Upper Primary Leader, for the dedication and effort she puts into her role each day across the section. A big thank you to Luke for his Class Captain duties and Jack for his contributions as SRC. We are also so grateful to Stef, who goes above and beyond every day to ensure the classroom runs smoothly, building special connections with students and showing genuine care.

Finally, a huge thank you to our families for your continued support throughout the term.

UPG

This term in UPG, it has been wonderful to see the students’ confidence and independence grow as they build on their routines and skills.

In Literacy, students have been working hard through our Little Learners program, showing great progress in reading, writing and vocabulary development. They have especially enjoyed our daily review sessions, where they have practised syllable segmentation and final phoneme identification, while also improving their spelling.

In Numeracy, our focus has been on addition and subtraction using number lines to count on and back. Students have shown persistence and enthusiasm as they applied these strategies across different activities.

In Discovery, we explored the journey from seed to plant to food through a range of hands-on experiments and learning experiences. Students showed great curiosity as they made connections about how the food we eat is grown and made.

In Social Competencies, the focus has been on fair and friendly play while learning new games, giving students opportunities to practise teamwork and positive interactions.

I am so proud of the effort and growth the students have demonstrated this term. Their enthusiasm and resilience continue to shine and I look forward to seeing them keep building their learning in Term 4.

UPH

Term 3 has been action packed for UPH Concord School. As quick as this Term has come to an end, it’s now time to reflect upon all the great things that have happened across the Term. UPH students have enjoyed engaging in learning about discovering the wonder of plants. Some highlights included learning about seeds and the factors that affect their growth, as well as different soil types as they can affect a seed’s growth. It was so interesting to watch how our grass and seeds grew across the term.

UPH students have continued to show enthusiasm in their learning, approaching the challenges of their  Little Learners Love Literacy groups. UPH have enjoyed focusing on encoding in these sessions which have required learners to listen closely to the sounds they hear in each word before writing. In Numeracy, UPH students  have been developing and consolidating their skills by focusing on the area of Addition and Subtraction. UPH students can be commended for their efforts in their weekly Numeracy sessions.

The biggest highlight for Term 3 for many of the students was the Big Day Out Excursion. The bowling and playground at Hoopla was voted the best part of the excursion by UPH, with the Smurfs movie coming a close second. The students can be commended for their hard work and giving their personal best each week.

Enjoy the well earned break UPH and we will see you in Term 4!
