Term 4 Unit- Together, We Belong

Literacy News

We recently enjoyed a virtual author visit with Sarah from Sarah and Emily Authors!

She read their latest picture book, ‘Book Your Ticket to Adventure’, shared a behind-the-scenes look at the writing process with their Wally Wombat series, and answered some brilliant questions from our students.

🏀 Junior Hoop Time Championships

Congratulations to our Junior Hoop Time teams who represented SoGS at the Grade 3 and 4 Hoop Time Championships at Keilor Basketball Stadium on Wednesday, 3rd September.

We proudly entered three teams:

  • All-Star Girls

  • Future Stars Mixed 1

  • Future Stars Mixed 2

It was a mixed bag of results for our Future Stars teams, but their teamwork, sportsmanship, and fairness were outstanding. We look forward to watching them grow and build on the fantastic basketball foundation they have over the next couple of years.

A big thank you to our coaches, Mrs Sarpa and Mr Adrian Luvara, for their guidance and support throughout the day. We also thank Mr Cook for holding some training sessions prior to the tournament. We are also very grateful to the parents who stepped in to assist with coaching our future stars— Mel L and Marcus P— and those who helped with scoring — Mel K and Ange S.

We also extend our thanks to the many parents and families who came along to cheer and support the teams.

Your encouragement makes these days even more special for the students.

A Special congratulations to our All-Star Girls, who have progressed through to the Regional Finals to be held later this year!

🏅 Broadmeadows District Athletics Carnival🏅

On an overcast but pleasant day, 41 students from Grades 4, 5, and 6 represented SoGS at the Broadmeadows District Athletics Carnival, held at the Meadowglen Athletics Centre in Epping.

Our team, a mix of new faces and seasoned competitors, arrived full of confidence. Earlier this year, SoGS claimed the District Cross Country title, and in recent months, having enjoyed great success in Basketball, Netball, Soccer, and AFL, spirits were high heading into the carnival.

From the very first events, our students were eager and determined to give their best. Some had just one event to focus on, while others juggled multiple events throughout the day. For those competing later in the schedule, the anticipation and excitement bubbled away until it was finally their turn to compete.

As always, every SoGS student showed dedication, perseverance, and determination. Whether sprinting, throwing, or jumping, each competitor fully embraced their event and gave their all for their school.

We are thrilled to share that 16 of our students have qualified for the Woodlands Division Athletics Carnival next Tuesday, having finished 1st or 2nd in their respective events.

To say I am proud of our students would be an understatement. No matter if they finished 1st or 10th, what mattered most was their effort, attitude, and hunger to succeed while representing the school they love.

Congratulations to all of our athletes, and thank you for your hard work and commitment in the lead-up to the carnival. We wish our 16 qualifiers Leah S, Matilda, Ava C, Maia, Stella P, Chloe B, Quinn M, Edison, Ava V, Allegra V, Eliera, Taylah T, Emilia A, Oliver G, Noah D and Aston D the very best of luck at the next stage of competition — and we know they’ll do us proud once again!

Sincerely
