Principal's Message

Carmela D'Amato

Dear Parents and Families,

This past Monday and Tuesday, the leadership team attended a two-day conference run by MACS focused on “Leading Excellence and Equity in Catholic Education.” We heard from a number of keynote speakers and were deeply moved by the collective responsibility we share in providing opportunities for our students to flourish.

One of the keynote speakers, Professor Br David Hall, reminded us of the vital role each of us has in this world: “Jesus Christ is perfection in human form. He is the way, the truth and the life. We are all on a journey to embrace Jesus Christ as our model and to continuously work towards becoming better human beings.”

This message echoed throughout the conference—through keynote talks and workshops alike, that explicit teaching and clear instruction are not only about academic growth but are also deeply connected to the way we grow as people.

This week, we have also begun forward planning for Term 4. The inquiry projects are shaping up to be full of fun, learning, and family involvement as we explore the unit title, "Together, we belong".  This leads beautifully in unpacking the  social, ethical, and cultural capabilities in our Victorian Curriculum, celebrating the richness of our community. This is a great opportunity to speak with your children about identity, inclusivity, and respect for one another.

Term 4 will also include a Water Safety Day for all students, with each year level participating in an activity connected to water safety. More information will be shared early next term.

Father's Day Celebrations

We loved celebrating our dads, grandads, and all the important male figures in our students’ lives. Thank you for creating such a wonderful buzz at our Father’s Day Breakfast on Friday morning. A very big thank you also to our Parent Association for organising the Father’s Day Stall and Raffle. We hope all our raffle winners are enjoying their prizes!

Thank you to our Parent Association for providing our students with a special bakery lunch on Monday 15th September.

On Thursday 18th September, students are encouraged to wear their favourite footy colours and bring along a gold coin donation.

Building & Facilities Updates

Your contributions through school levies play an important role in funding improvements to our facilities, resources, and learning environments. We are grateful for your support in ensuring that our students have the very best opportunities.

Over the holidays, work will begin on the Year 5 classroom renovation. Currently, the open design allows noise to travel easily between Year 5, Year 6, and the central resource area. By creating a corridor with glass panels, we will provide greater flexibility: teachers and students can open or close the space depending on the activity. We will also be updating student tables and storage buckets to further enhance learning.

In addition, after several years of planning with the MACS Building and Infrastructure team, we are thrilled to share that a new portable classroom dedicated to STEM has been approved. This specialist hub will allow all specialist classes to be taught from one central space, reducing time lost moving between areas. The building is scheduled for completion by Day 1 of Term 1, 2026. What an exciting milestone for our school!

Fees & Finance

Thank you to the many families who have already finalised their school fees for the year. These contributions support our global budget, which funds building works, classroom resources, stationery, excursions, incursions, and specialist programs. Your support makes a real difference to the opportunities we can provide.  If you are experiencing difficulty on meetings these payments, please contact the office to arrange a meeting time.

Road Safety Reminder

Safety is always our top priority. We ask all drivers to please slow down when entering the car park and remain vigilant at crossing points.

A reminder too that:

  • All children must remain in their seatbelt until the car has come to a complete stop.
  • Toddlers must be securely harnessed at all times.
  • Students should not remove their seatbelts while waiting in the Kiss and Drop queue.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep every member of our community safe.

End of Term notices

Last Day of School: Please note that students will finish at the usual time of 3:15pm on Thursday 18th September, followed by Parent Teacher Interviews. A reminder that there will be no students on site on Friday 19th September as Parent Teacher Interviews will continue throughout the day.

Term 4 begins on Monday 6th October!

On a personal note, I am excited to be heading off on my holiday in Italy, followed by the Jubilee Pilgrimage to Rome, Loreto, and Assisi. I will be meeting up with 16 other catholic school principals for this time of prayer, reflection and community. A highlight will be the papal audience at St Peter’s Basilica, where we will be greeted by Pope Leo XIV. What an incredible time to be in Rome, a time of great hope. Our Prep students have written beautiful letters to Pope Leo, which I will be taking with me to Rome.

Thank you for your continued support. I wish you all a wonderful week and Term break.

Sincerely,

Carmela
