Foundation
Over the past fortnight, Foundation students continued building their soccer skills, with a focus on improving their control while kicking. They practised zig-zagging in and out of cones before passing to a partner, developing both their footwork and accuracy. These fun and engaging activities encouraged students to apply the inside-foot kicking technique in more dynamic settings, while also reinforcing spatial awareness and teamwork. Students also played a fun game of line tiggy, a balancing game where we must stay on the lines!
Year 1
Year 1 students continued to refine their chest passing and dribbling skills in basketball. With growing confidence, they worked on maintaining control while dribbling through cones and moving into space. Partner and group-based chest passing activities helped reinforce the importance of accuracy and stepping into passes. It was fantastic to see students begin to transfer these skills into small-sided games and drills that required communication and movement.
Year 2
Year 2 students built on their overarm throwing technique by applying their skills in a variety of active games.
They practised with partners and built on their knowledge by playing whole class games of dodgeball and Cone Chaos, which allowed them to focus on aim and teamwork. These games offered a fun and fast-paced way to challenge their throwing accuracy under pressure while reinforcing the importance of correct body positioning and follow-through. Year 3
Year 3 students put their handballing and marking skills to the test in a fun new game called Football Volleyball. In this activity, teams aimed to work the ball over a net using only handballs, while trying to catch and mark incoming passes. This fast-paced game helped reinforce the importance of accurate handballing, strategic movement, and quick decision-making, all while encouraging students to work together as a team.
Year 4
Year 4 students continued their soccer unit by participating in a full game of soccer. This provided them with the opportunity to apply the skills and strategies developed in previous weeks, including passing into space, defensive positioning, and moving the ball effectively as a team. The game format helped students understand the flow of real match play and supported their development of game sense and positional awareness.
Year 5
Year 5 students continued progressing through their Hot Shots Tennis unit. In recent sessions, they challenged themselves in a Cone Accuracy tennis game, where the goal was to aim their forehand and backhand shots at cone targets across the net. This encouraged greater focus on control and precision while reinforcing proper swing technique and footwork. Students also participated in rally-based games to apply these skills in a more competitive context.
Year 6
Year 6 students took their basketball learning further by applying their skills in modified gameplay. They participated in full games, as well as small-sided activities like 2 vs 1 and 3 vs 2 scenarios, which required quick decision-making, effective passing, and strong defensive efforts. These drills helped students recognise when to shoot, pass, or drive to the basket, and supported their understanding of spacing, teamwork, and offensive strategies.

CBS District Athletics Day – Coming Up this Term!
We are thrilled to announce that our CBS District Athletics Day is fast approaching and will take place on Tuesday, August 20th (Term 3, Week 6)!
This is an exciting opportunity for selected students in Years 3–6 to represent our school with pride as they compete against other local schools in a variety of track and field events. We’ve seen fantastic effort and sportsmanship from our students during our school-based athletics trials and we can’t wait to see them shine on the big stage.
