Write a Book In a Day

On Friday 22nd August, 61 students participated in Write a Book In a Day.  Eighteen year 7’s experienced their first ever Write a Book in a Day while across other year levels we had experienced participants and newbies working together to create some amazing stories.

Students worked in 7 teams to each complete a book of between 3500 and 5000 words.  The books had to meet certain parameters – with students provided with random characters, settings and issues to force them to get very creative.

Our students created magical worlds and characters which included a rapidly growing, talking shark, invisible friends and scary clowns, a supernatural Christmas babysitting job, a portal to another world, having your voice stolen, a rocket launch and a team of supernatural heroes defending humankind from negativity.

Write a Book In a Day is a wonderful opportunity for students to develop their teamwork skills and flex their creative muscles while raising money for a good cause. The competition is run as a Fundraiser for the Kids Cancer Project and for the past 4 years our students have raised a lot of money to support research into new treatments for childhood cancers.  So far, this year, our students have raised $2,188. Last year we raised over $4000 so we are aiming to do the same this year. Donations can be made until the end of this Term so please follow the links below to donate if you can.

We would love to thank our sponsors including Domino’s Pizza who provided our dinner pizzas at half price, Woolworths in Howitt Street who provided a range of fruit and veg for our morning tea platters and the Arch Fish Shop who provided the afternoon tea of hot chips for free.  We would also love to thank Eureka Pizza and Bistro who donated gift vouchers to all participants as a reward for their hard work.

This 12-hour day can be exhausting but it is also very rewarding and our students did an amazing job. Well done to everyone who participated and thank you all the family members and guardians who supported their students to participate in Write a Book In a Day this year.  It is inspiring witnessing our students’ creativity and perseverance.

All 7 books are now available to look at in our library as bound books and online through this link:

Each team needs to raise $240 to get their book included in digital libraries in children’s hospitals around Australia.

Below are the links to the different teams and their current fundraising efforts.

Any donations made are tax deductable and used to support research to help find cures and better treatments for childhood cancers.
