Messages from the Principal

Hello NPS Families,

What an absolute treat it was to be able to be the Acting Principal for the past two days and get to write this, my very first ‘ Acting Principal’s Report’!

I really enjoyed getting to wander through all of our learning spaces and see some of the exciting learning experiences students were enjoying. I particularly enjoyed reading to the Preps, with their beautiful chorusing and connections to Heath McKenzie’s ‘You Get What You Get And You Don’t Get Upset’ and a sneak peak of the Prep’s concert. I can’t wait to see it on Concert Night early next term.

It was wonderful to welcome many fathers and father figures, as well as families, to our Father’s Day Breakfast. It was very well populated and many students and their special people were able to enjoy a bacon and egg roll carefully constructed by our brilliant Breakfast Club helpers, classroom teachers and our Education Support staff. It was a wonderful start to the day, with some great learning opportunities for the cooks who learnt plenty about the capabilities of the barbecue. We at Newtown Primary School hope that everyone enjoys celebrating their fathers and father figures on Sunday.

We also enjoyed a surprise delivery on Thursday, causing some confusion in the office as we attempted to decipher why we would be receiving several large pallets of fibreglass. To our delight, and with the well-coordinated recess-time delivery, we unloaded several components of our soon-to-be installed slides. Two fresh long golden slides, and a windy blue slide.

This Monday we invite parents into our spaces for the first hour for our Literacy Open Morning. Teaching staff are really looking forward to showcasing some key elements of our Literacy Instructional Models and having students collaborate on a writing piece with their parents. Please make the effort to attend if you are able to.

Child Safe Standards At Newtown PS

At Newtown PS, we are committed to providing an environment where students are safe and feel safe.

Our child safety framework (https://newtownps.vic.edu.au/policies/) explains how we support and maintain child safety and wellbeing at our school. This includes our:

  • Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy

  • Child Safety Reporting and Responding Obligations Procedures, and

  • Child Safety Code of Conduct, which outlines acceptable and unacceptable behaviours for all staff and volunteers at our school.

Our students and families are important partners in providing a child-safe environment. These regular newsletter reminders are one of the ways we ensure our school community is aware of:

  • our commitment to child safety, and
  • how to provide feedback or raise child safety concerns.

If you have any concerns about child safety at any time, please contact Mr. Barclay via the school's email address at newtown.ps@education.vic.gov.au

Any child safety complaints or concerns are treated seriously. For more information about our school’s complaints process, see our Complaints Policy at https://newtownps.vic.edu.au/policies/

We also welcome your ideas on ways we can improve our approach to child safety and wellbeing. If you have any suggestions or comments, please contact us via our "Always On Feedback Portal", linked on the front of our newsletter each week.
