Year 5 Excursion - Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery

Tuesday 6 August

On Tuesday 6 August, Year 5 students will be walking to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) to explore how artefacts tell stories and to participate in the Introduction to ningina tunapri Workshop guided by TMAG’s First Peoples Learning Facilitator. We will also visit the Our Land: parrawa! parrawa! Go Away in the Bond Store galleries, examining the conflict between the Tasmanian First Peoples and European invaders from multiple perspectives as well as some of the other museum galleries.

We will depart the Primary School at 9am and return via Soundy Park for a play, arriving at school by 2.45pm. Full sports uniform is to be worn for comfort. All students will need to bring their own backpack, containing a raincoat and their morning tea, lunch and water bottle.  We require a couple of parents from each class to ensure we meet the TMAG ratio guidelines. If you are able to attend, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. Our volunteers will require a current Working With Vulnerable People card. You will also need to fill in a volunteer form at this link.

Year 3 - Outdoor Education Excursion - Hobart Rivulet

Friday 9 August

On Friday 9 August, Year 3 students will be going on an Outdoor Education excursion to explore the history and changing landscape surrounding the Hobart Rivulet. Parts of the journey will be on foot, other parts will be on a bus. Year 3 class teachers will accompany their classes with Emily (Outdoor Education Teacher). We will depart school at 9.30am and return to school by approximately 3pm. Students should wear sports uniforms on this day, but will need to bring a warm jumper or coat/jacket, beanie, gloves and a waterproof raincoat as it could be very cold. As we will be away from school for most of the day, students will need to bring a large packed lunch (no lunch orders), snacks and drink from home as well as any required medications for the day.

We would like to invite a small number of parents/guardians to join us for this day. If you are interested in assisting please email the classroom teachers by Friday 2 August. Our volunteers will require a current Working With Vulnerable People card. You will also need to fill in a volunteer form at this link. We thank you for your assistance with this, and appreciate any helpers who are able to be involved. Please ensure your child’s Operoo details are up to date.

Absentees

If your child will be absent from school for the day please advise the Primary School Office (phone: 6210 2228, or email: primaryschooloffice@friends.tas.edu.au ) and the classroom teacher before 9.00am. We appreciate your support in this process.
