Robotics
Prep
During Term 3, students participating in Prep Robotics and Coding Innovation will explore the use of the Beebots and Dash robots. Students will learn how to manually code the Beebots with a focus on identifying directions and pathways and how they can fix any issues that may arise. Students will set up obstacle courses and use robotic mats to engage them. With the Dash robots, students will learn how to steer and control the robots using the Go app to make Dash move. Plenty of hands-on learning is about to happen to help our youngest learners begin their coding journey!
Year 2
This term, Year 2 Robotics Innovation students will explore a new set of coding equipment called Botzees. These robotic kits contain a central hub and building blocks that allows for many different robots to be built. Students will work together to code and create the Botzees, and then use their Botzee on a series of missions to develop their block coding skills. Students will learn about different motors, and how to control the Botzee with different commands, sounds and music. A series of games and Augmented Reality puzzles will keep the students engaged, whilst building their coding and collaboration skills.
Year 3
This Term, students of Year 3 will build their skills of Scratch coding. They will be working on creating their own personalised video game, whilst also connecting a Makey Makey kit to create their very own video game controller! Innovators will experiment with different materials that can act as a circuit to make their video game come to life. Will it be carrot sticks? Playdough? Tin foil? The opportunities are endless! Students will develop a game style of either chase, pong, catch or jumping game styles that they will debug, develop and share. They will also expand their knowledge of the Dash robots and the Sphero robotic devices. New equipment will be introduced such as the Dash launcher and Gripper. Students will create their own obstacle courses and challenges whilst fine-tuning their coding skills.
Year 4
This Term, students of Year 4 will build their skills of Scratch coding. They will also have the expand their knowledge of the Dash robots and the Sphero robotic devices. New equipment will be introduced such as the Dash launcher and Gripper. Students will create their own obstacle courses and challenges whilst fine-tuning their coding skills.
Year 6
This semester, students in Year 6 Robotics Innovation will explore the use of the Lego Education Spike Prime robotic kits. Students will work in a partnership to collaborate, problem solve and build a series of robotic projects. Innovator’s will have the chance to upskill their block coding skills through a series of workshops aimed at introducing new concepts such the use of motors, an electronic hub, a colour sensor, distance sensor and a gyro sensor. Towards the end of the unit, students will indulge in an Inquiry build of their own, collaborating to create a build that could help someone in the real world!
