Years 3 and 4

This term, the Year Three and Year Four students in the Chinese Innovation class will immerse themselves in the art of Chinese batik, a traditional textile technique known for its vibrant patterns and deep cultural roots. As part of their learning journey, students will explore the intricate process of creating batik designs and practice writing Chinese characters associated with them. The hands-on batik activity will allow students to experience the cultural significance of this art form, where each pattern often carries symbolic meanings of prosperity and good fortune. Through these activities, students will gain a tactile understanding of Chinese craftsmanship and history. In addition, they will participate in guided sessions where they will learn to write and recognise Chinese characters used in batik motifs, further enhancing their appreciation and connection to the language. This comprehensive approach will provide a multifaceted Chinese learning experience, fostering both linguistic and cultural fluency in an engaging and enjoyable manner. 

 

Years 5 and 6

This term, the students in the Chinese Innovation class from Year Five and Year Six will immerse themselves in the beauty of Chinese calligraphy and the fascinating world of Chinese characters. They will learn to write Chinese characters focusing on those related to the Mid-Autumn Festival and batik. Through these activities, students will understand the cultural significance behind these characters and their meanings. They will also create calligraphy art pieces and practice writing festive greetings to share with their families. These activities will help students appreciate the rich cultural heritage of China while enhancing their skills in reading and writing Chinese.
