La Célébration Des Jeux Olympiques De Paris 2024
Dans La Classe De Francais
It has been a joy to share in the buzz of the vibrant Paris 2024 games with our Willy students. So many cultural and historical conversations have been had around them and we have naturally kept up-to-speed with some of the highlights and behind the scenes organisation. From the Versailles palace gardens incredibly set up for the equestrian competitions to ‘La Place De La Concorde’ (which formerly held the space for the French Revolution guillotine) now hosting the skateboarding events – and many more places in between - Paris has really come out strong in very unique and unrecognisable ways.
Now at the half way mark, the Paris Olympics so far have seen two historical records for the French delegation:
As there is no nation on earth quite as widely sporty as Australia (even though it now looks like France has made a major turn around 😊), the topic has naturally generated many excited conversations in the French room which have lent themselves perfectly to some Olympian linguistic work with all year levels:
Preps - Discovery of French shapes vocabulary through songs and floor activities leading to the five Olympic rings
‘les cinq cercles sont bleu, noir, rouge, jaune et vert’
Year 1s - Writing in French about two of the Olympic symbols – the five rings with their colours and the Olympic spirit of Peace
‘les symboles des Jeux Olympiques sont…
Les cinq anneaux Olympiques
L’ange Olympique de la Paix’
Year 2s - Full French role-play discussing about what the Olympic symbol looks like
‘Coucou …. . Quel est le symbole des Jeux Olympiques?
Ah …. , le symbole des Jeux Olympique est les cinq anneaux Olympiques.
Ah oui? De quelles couleurs sont les anneaux?
Les anneaux Olympiques sont bleu, noir, rouge, jaune et vert’
Year 5/6s - Recreating the French presidential speech for the official opening ceremony to declare the 2024 games open to their classmates:
‘Le Discours Du Président Pour La Cérémonie Des Jeux Olympiques:
Bonjour, je m’appelle … et je suis le Président (la Présidente) de la République Française. Je déclare les Jeux Olympiques de Paris deux mille vingt-quatre (2024) ouverts!!!!!’
We can be proud of our Willy students! They have been doing an awesome job with these tasks which will keep going until next week. And what better way to excel than adding fun props to perform!!
Madame CRICRI 😊
The art room has been a hive of activity as we continue to prepare art pieces for our upcoming art show. We have been working on a variety of pieces using lots of different materials and techniques. We can’t wait to display them for everyone to see.
The Grade Preps are working on some paper bag houses which will become part of our city scape art installation. Each house is unique containing lots of details including window flower boxes, bricks and weatherboards.
The Grade 1’s are working on their botanic portraits. We will be cutting out the watercolour flowers we made last week and adding them to our detailed headdress crowns for our portraits.
The Grades 2’s are exploring the world of Matisse and recreating simple styled flowers which will form part of our Botanic Garden art installation. We are looking at upsizing our art pieces and using black pen to add fine details.
The Grade 3’s are also studying Matisse and are looking at his use of bright and pure colours to create some floral pieces. These will be added to our art show Botanic Garden display.
The Grade 4’s are sketching and drawing their favourite places in Williamstown onto super large jigsaw pieces. We will arrange them in a fun interesting way to create a tribute to the suburb we live in for our art show.
The Grade 5/6’s are working hard to put the finishing touches on their 3D papier mâché creations. The children are finishing the main structure of their piece and building up layers of newspaper and PVA glue then finishing them off with paint.
Warm Regards,
Marcia Evans
