Newlands Garden

The school is flourishing

Hola! I am Agus, a school mum and a member of the Buildings and Grounds subcommittee. I recently approached the school with the idea of creating a wildlife garden for our children, and the feedback has been incredibly positive! The creation of this new space will have a lifelong impact on our children, giving them the opportunity to engage with nature and learn about our native wildlife fauna. And I can’t wait to get started!

The Wildlife Garden will be created on the northern side of the school, and it will be huge!

The creation of this space will have a very big, positive impact for our children, the local wildlife and our surrounding community.

The planting of the natives will happen on Friday 30th of August.

In the meanwhile you will see loads of ground preparation happening! And I know what you are hoping :) There will be plenty of opportunities for everyone to get your hands dirty!!

This is the bit you all like. How can parents help?

  • We have a Weeding Day on Sunday 28th of July! We would love to see parents and children here getting your hands dirty to remove all the bad guys from the ground. BYO gloves and weeding tools.
  • Get your hands on to every single cardboard box you see in the next couple of days, and bring it on Weeding Day! We will be using them to cover the ground post weeding.
  • You can support the project budget by buying one of the seed jars that the Gardening Club kid’s have been making https://www.gofundme.com/f/seed-bombs-for-wildlife
  • And, there will be opportunities to volunteer on the day too! We will let you know more about it closer to the day.

Much love,

Agus
