STUDENT - LED CONFERENCES

STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES

Dear Parents and Carers,

As PYP educators we believe in the importance and impact of self-efficacy and learner agency. Our Student-Led Conferences provide an authentic opportunity for these valuable elements to be applied and demonstrated with students having choice, voice and ownership of the process, together with the support of their teachers.

Student-led Conferences reflect the belief that students should be actively involved in their learning and assume responsibility for the learning process.  Through the conference, students become more motivated, reflective and evaluative.  They also become more critical in their approach to learning. The purpose of a student-led conference is for students to share their achievements and celebrate their learning through an authentic reflection. Students can share their challenges and opportunities for improvement. The students use their portfolios and workbooks during the conference to show evidence of their learning, achievements and personal growth.

On Tuesday the 30th of July we are conducting Student Led Conferences.  The conferences are held from 4:00 – 6:15 in your child’s classroom. Bookings are essential and are to be made on Compass. Bookings can be made via the conference Tab on Compass and will open today. We will have 4 family conferences running in each classroom simultaneously and your child's class teacher will be roaming between each family group as the students talk about their progress. We have designed the booking system so that parents/families can book in a start time and these will be staggered in 5-minute intervals.

Families are expected to stay for approximately 15 minutes with their child in the classroom while they are led through the learning process and portfolio. Teachers will be on hand to prompt children who may need some support and be a part of the conference when required.

This is not a parent-teacher interview-style event. Please be aware that if you are booking for more than one child, you will need to allow for a gap of 15-20 minutes between start times. The specialist teachers and their learning spaces will also be open for family visits.

Georgina will be in the Art room.

Anna / Samantha will be in the Performing Arts room

Jason will be in the STEAM room & Walter will be in the Italian room from 4-6:30.

Please come along and look at our specialist spaces.

Kind regards,

Luisa
