Year 6 Leaders
This morning Mrs Coucaud, Mrs Taylor and I met with our Year 6 Student Leadership group. Our discussion included some feedback around classroom programs, curriculum programs and upcoming school events. Throughout the year, these student leaders have been getting into different classrooms and doing lesson observations. They are able to look out for students demonstrating our school values and hand out tokens whilst observing these lessons. They are a great group of leaders, with some terrific ideas!
New Staff
I would like to welcome Ms Chloe Delaney to Clyde PS. Chloe has just joined our Administration team and you will see her smiley face at the front desk. We also welcome back Mr Brayden Haworth, who has taken on an Education Support role in our digitech class room.
Green and Gold Day - 2nd August 2024
To show our school's support for the Australian Olympic Team we are turning green and gold on Friday 2nd August. Students can opt to wear their school uniform with touches of green and gold, or theycan go all out in free dress, so long as they stick to the theme. There is no cost for this activity, as it is not a school fundraiser. This will also accompany the learning and activities students will do in class and across the school, to learn more about our olympians and paralympians.
Book Week
Each year, across Australia, the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) brings children and books together celebrating Children’s Book Week. Throughout the year, the CBCA works in partnership with authors, illustrators, publishers, booksellers and other organisations in the children’s book world to bring words, images and stories into the hearts and minds of children and adults.
This year Book Week is being held from August 17th – 23rd. At Clyde Primary school, students shall celebrate Australian literature through a range of activities throughout the week, and our annual Book Week Parade. Our Book Week parade shall be held on Monday August 19, from 9:10am in the school gym and parents and families are welcome to attend.
On this day we invite students to be creative as they embrace the theme, Reading is Magic and dress as their favourite literary character. We look forward to seeing you there!
Canteen Reminders
Our school canteen operates on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
The canteen is open at recess and lunch time for students to purchase snack foods over the counter.
We have recently noticed a number of students having large amounts of money to spend at the canteen, and many students are using this to purchase items for their friends. Whilst this is a lovely gesture, it often ends in causing issues for students. We ask that parents only provide enough money for their child to purchase one or two items for themselves. Parents will receive notification if large notes are received at the canteen.
NAIDOC Week: Naidoc Week (National Aborigines’ and Islanders’ Day Observance Committee) is held across Australia in the first week of July each year.
Last week, all students at Clyde Primary School celebrated Naidoc Week and learnt about the history and culture of Australian and Torre Strait Islander people. They participated in different reading, writing and inquiry activities throughout the week, aimed at building students’ knowledge and understanding of our First People. See some photos of these activities on the Naidoc Week page in this newsletter
2024 Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey
Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education. The survey is designed to assist us in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement.
Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.
A random sample of parents / caregivers / guardians have been selected to participate in this year’s survey and will recieve a link to complete the survey. The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 29 July to Friday 30 August 2024. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school directly for survey guides in your language.
Mobile Phones
Just a a reminder that if your child brings a mobile phone or smart watch into school, they are required to turn them off and hand them into the office
before school. They can pick up their phone or watch at the end of the day from the office. If students are found with their phone or watch during the day they will be asked to hand it into the office and an parent/carer will be required to pick it up from the office. You can read the full Mobile Phone policy on the school website, under policies.
