Catholic Identity
We acknowledge Dja Dja Wurrung, the Djaara people, as the traditional custodians of the land on which St Joseph’s Primary School is built. We pay our respects to the elders, past and present, and pay tribute to the unique role they play in the life of this region. At St Joseph's school we are inspired by the world’s oldest living culture and celebrate their continuing contribution to the life of this region and the sharing of knowledge. We call on the spirit ancestors to walk with us always as we share and learn together as one.
Sacraments of Confirmation & Eucharist
We have a number of our Year 4 students who will receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. This special celebration will take place this Saturday August 24 at the 6pm Mass at St Joseph's Church. All are welcome to attend the mass to support our students. Please keep these students in your prayers.
This Sunday's Gospel - Sunday August 18
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John
My flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.
Jesus said to the crowd:
‘I am the living bread which has come down from heaven.
Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever;
and the bread that I shall give is my flesh, for the life of the world.’
Then the Jews started arguing with one another: ‘How can this man give us his flesh to eat?’ they said. Jesus replied:
‘I tell you most solemnly, if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man
and drink his blood, you will not have life in you.
Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood
has eternal life, and I shall raise him up on the last day.
For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.
He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me and I live in him.
As I, who am sent by the living Father, myself draw life from the Father,
so whoever eats me will draw life from me.
This is the bread come down from heaven;
not like the bread our ancestors ate:
they are dead, but anyone who eats this bread will live for ever.’
A beginning point for discussion of this week's Gospel with children:
- What makes you happy and joyful in your life?
- What are the most important of these?
- Why are they the most important?
- Jesus tells us that we should seek things that will last. In today’s Gospel what does Jesus give us that will last for ever?
- Jesus gives us the Bread of life, himself.
- How do we show we are happy and thankful for this great gift?
We can sing songs of joy and praise God, give thanks for the many blessings we are given and show kindness to one another.
