College Pyjama Day
Final Classes for Year 12
Today, Friday, October 17th was the last day for Year 12 classes. The final week of Year 12 was filled with excitement and emotion as students celebrated the end of 13 years of school. There’s a real buzz in the air with the farewell parade and Funfields excursion next week on Tuesday, October 21st, and the chance to look back on all the memories made along the way. At the same time, students are focused on studying hard and preparing for upcoming exams, with a mix of nerves and anticipation about what’s next. It was a week of laughter, reflection, and looking forward to the future.
Year 11 Modern History Excursion: The Shrine of Remembrance
Students participated in a field excursion exploring how societies remember and interpret significant historical events. The day began with a walk along Memorial Avenue, where students analysed commemorative statues and discussed their symbolism, purpose, and the narratives they promote. This was followed by a guided visit to the Shrine of Remembrance, focusing on Australia’s evolving traditions of remembrance and the representation of war in public memory. The excursion concluded with visits to memorials commemorating victims of terrorist and extremist events, encouraging reflection on how more recent global conflicts and acts of violence are memorialised in our city.
Student Testimonials
“The history excursion was really beautiful and educational. We went around the botanical gardens and we had to search for some monuments and reflect on their significance and history. I had so much fun and saw the shrine for the first time and it was interesting. We also had a guide that showed us around the shrine and even a demonstration of the light that goes on the rock in the middle of the main room, highlighting "Greater love hath no man".”
“The History excursion was a time to reflect on the importance of past events in Melbourne. We outlined the experiences of our country and the significance of monuments in Melbourne. This experience was fun and a way for us as students to experience and understand the past through the Shrine of Remembrance, significant statues and other places.”
“On Thursday, our history class went to the city. The day started with us navigating through Memorial Avenue and Swanston Street, where we looked at different statues and areas, focusing on the ideas of memorial and remembrance and the significance of these. Afterwards, we made it to the Shrine of Remembrance, where we went on a guided tour, looking at not only the origins of the Shrine and WW1 and WW2, but also many of Australia's peacekeeping missions post-WW2, furthering our understanding of the importance of remembrance.”
ONTTC's student of the week
We have a number of students who attend the Outer Northern Trade Training Centre (ONTTC) each year to study their VET courses. Congratulations to Year 11 student, Robbie, who was announced as the ONTTC Student of the week. This award highlights the effort and commitment Robbie has put in over multiple weeks. He consistently follows ONTTC’s values of attending with a positive mindset towards Integrity, Growth and Excellence. He also displays the underlying values of skill development, respect, teamwork, accountability, and safety. All these values contribute to ONTTEC's end goal of preparing students with Employability skills, which will best prepare them for the workplace.
Congratulations Robbie, on being recognised for ONTTC’s Student of the week!
Year 9 Burnside Camp
In the final week of Term 3, our Year 9 students headed down the coast to Burnside Camp in Anglesea for an unforgettable outdoor adventure. Over the 3 days, students challenged themselves in a range of exciting activities, including mountain bike riding through scenic trails, tackling the high ropes course, archery and enjoying a variety of beach activities.
A highlight for many was the surfing sessions, where students braved the waves and developed new skills in a fun and supportive environment. Beyond the physical challenges, the camp offered a fantastic opportunity for students to strengthen friendships, build resilience, and step outside their comfort zones.
It was a wonderful way to finish the term, and we thank the staff who supported the students and helped make the experience such a success.
