Heads of Secondary Years' Report

To our wonderful Hazel Glen community,
Welcome back to Term 4! We hope that you all had a restful break and are ready for a busy term ahead.
Our VCE students have been preparing for their exams, and we are all grateful for the teachers who gave up their time over the break to support our students with revision sessions and trial exams. Our Year 12s had their last official school day today, on Friday 17th October, whilst their Celebration Day is Tuesday 21st October and their exams start on Tuesday 28th October. We started Week 2 of this term with a Secondary Years Assembly with a focus on farewelling our Year 12 students.
It was so lovely to hear the reflections of our 2025 College Captains about the Hazel Glen journey, and we enjoyed watching a photo montage of their school journey. One of the key messages from our captains was for students to get involved at our College, be open to trying new things and participate in as many opportunities provided at school as they can. This was very wise advice and something that we would also like to remind our students.
The lessons in the classroom are important; however, the connections and experiences gained outside of the classroom that complement the academic program are often the experiences that lead to personal growth, increase satisfaction at school and are the things that you will remember long after you graduate.
We wish all of our VCE students all the best in the lead up to their exams and for life beyond Hazel Glen.
Our Secondary Years enjoyed a successful Footy Day at the end of Term 3 and you can read more about this in the Celebrations of learning and community section of this newsletter.
We enjoyed the College Pyjama day on Wednesday,15th October. This was a wonderful opportunity to connect with Primary Years and all show our support for the College camps program.
Student leadership is something very important to Hazel Glen College. We have already started the process for selecting our 2026 College Captains and Vice Captains, and while our captains hold an important role at our College, there is also a lot that has been happening to support many students with their own unique leadership journey.
Our Year 8 and 9 Student Leadership Academy recently enjoyed a Leading Teams incursion on October 10th, and a group of senior students attended the Northern Education Alliance Leadership Day on 7th October.
With exam periods for students in Year 9-11and 2026 transition programs fast approaching, please keep an eye out on Compass for details of these programs.
Students in Year 11 and 12 in 2026 will have a 2 week step up program. Those going into Year 9 and 10 will have a 2-day program and students in Year 7 and 8 will participate in a single-day transition program on the statewide transition day.
